91- Harrell, Justin- unproven bust

"macbob" wrote:

Don't know about you, G-Force, but personally I've moved him into the 'proven bust' category...lol...

"G-Force" wrote:

By unproven, I meant his play is unproven because he is a 'proven' bust. Definitely have him in the same category!!!

Hillenmeyer, iirc was under Sherman and he was relegated to practice squad. They wanted to develop him for a year first, but the Bares nabbed him.

Yep Sherm was HC and GM in 2003.

I thought they waived him with that intent.. but he choose to sign with Chitown instead of sitting on our PS.

Splitting hairs.. and I really don't think that he fits into that category.. but he came to mind.

Am I the only one who hasn't given up on Justin Harrell?

"nerdmann" wrote:

Nope. I also think he needs to be given one more shot this year.

I don't think just one shot in the joints of Cortisone or other spin off in his ailing joints are going to do the trick. ;)

Speaking of which.. about due for another one in the shoulder.

I am split on this for one reason only, we don't have depth at defensive line.

95- Green, Howard- part-time player
??- Guy, Lawrence- unproven rookie
91- Harrell, Justin- unproven bust
77- Jenkins, Cullen- injury prone, but best we have atm (DE)
96- Neal, Mike- unproven, injured.
79- Pickett, Ryan- aging but useful
98- Wilson, C.J.- decent at best atm.
94- Wynn, Jarius- decent at best atm.
68- Ross, Jay- ? (sorry for my ignorance)
90- Raji, B.J.- obviously greatness.

In my opinion, Jenkins is needed on the team. Obviously his asking price was too high at the time and the Packers were banking on the return of Mr. Purp Jolly, but things have changed. I believe Jenkins is needed on this defensive line.

You are selling this group short.
Green may be a "part time player" but he has a job to do and he does it well. Stop the run on 1st and 2nd downs. Not everyone can do that.

Pickett may be "aging but useful". Is he going to be effective this year? I don't see why not. There is nothing to indicate he will be unable to do his job. His production was comparable to 2009 with a couple of extra solo tackles and a sack. He may decline next year or the year after but I am not going to worry about those seasons at this time.
His job and the job of the other DL is not to lead the team in tackles or sacks. Rather the unglamorous job of taking up space and letting the LBers get the tackles.

Neal, Wilson, Wynn- you are not allowing the the chance to grow. Jenkins, Jolly and others were unproven or merely decent at one time as well. With reps and coaching they grew. These players can too. Who knows with Guy. He is a year or two away from making any kind of statement about.

"G-Force" wrote:

Sorry, I wasn't necessarily trying to take personal shots at each player. I just think with the time still needed to grow for Neal, Wilson, and Wynn a guy like Jenkins still needs to be on the team (depending on the $ he is asking for).

Green and Pickett are good players...Pickett can still bring it. Is he going to be effective this year? I have no idea, I hope so. With the lockout, the big guys are the ones I worry most about.

While it is the defensive line's job to clog the holes for linebackers to make plays, Jenkins did more than just clog the holes. Maybe I give Jenkins too much credit. If the Bears get Jenkins, he will help them tremendously and I'd rather not see him lining up across from Packers offensive line.

I too would prefer to see Cullen back in GB. The lack of conversation on the part of GB staff on the issue leads me to believe that they are comfortable allowing the younger guys the opportunity to develope more.

Being the SB champs I would prefer they take a slightly different approach than they have in the past. I would like to see them acknowledge the fact that they have a pretty solid team and try and keep the components together that brought them the championship instead of being in the rebuilding mode.

Mike Wahle had highly productive years in Carolina.

"Pack93z" wrote:

As I recall, he only had about one more productive season after he left Green Bay, but I think Kevin beat me to that.

Corey Williams, when used properly like he was with the Lions is a very good player.

He struck me as more of a role player there, but your expertise is far higher than mine, so I will defer to you. I was more thinking of the time he spent in Cleveland, where he didn't accomplish all that much.

I don't get what is so difficult to understand. Mike Neal was drafted last year to be Cullen Jenkins replacement this year. The fact that CJ Wilson is better than adequate, even makes the decision to let Cullen walk that much easier.

We are the lucky fans of a team who's general manager is a master of his trade, and we sit here questioning him as if he's Al Davis. The only thing I want to hear from Cullen Jenkins is thank you to the Packers for coaching his undrafted ass into a marginal Pro Bowler about ready to cash in.

He doesn't effectively fit a 3-4 system.. but excels from the inside in the 4-3 where at times he can go one on one with another interior player. In the mold of Santana Dotson of years past.. needs another dog inside with him to exploit the match ups..

Role players (example.. Howard Green.. Sam Shields.. Tom Crabtree... Charlie Peprah) make great impacts as well to wins and losses. IMO.. Williams is an effective player in the right situation.. which is what I thought you were looking for in your query.

And Dakota.. offering critical opinions of ones performance isn't always negative.. more of examining and gathering knowledge.

IMO.. Jenkins will shop the market.. and the Packers will stay in the picture if his market value remains fair.. if he gets showered with a lucrative deal.. they will allow him to walk. Not a bad position to be in.

That doesn't take away from the fact the Jenkins is a good player that can assert pressure from the inside.. a premium in the league.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
