Overview

Elmore has great intangible qualities and should provide some value with his pass rushing ability and hustle. However, he does not possess enough strength in the running game or elite athleticism to be considered a future starter. Can get off the ball, occasionally turn the corner, and close on the quarterback but won't set up his man, counter, or use the bull rush. Has a motor that doesn't stop and will make some plays chasing ball carriers down the line but is a liability when run at and can be a tick late to find the football. Elmore carries a late-round grade.

Overview

Elmore has been a leader of the Wildcat defense for the past three years, demonstrating outstanding effort and production, registering double-digit sacks in each of the past two seasons. As an NFL prospect, Elmore is strictly a 4-3 end prospect, too small for 3-4 end and too slow for outside linebacker. While his effort and intangibles are impressive, Elmore's lack of elite athleticism may prevent him from being anything more than a rotation backup at the next level.
Analysis

Positives: Three-year starter at end for the Wildcats is a high motor prospect who led the Pac-10 in sacks each of the past two seasons. Relentless in pursuit of the quarterback. Can be very quick off the snap in spurts. Has a fast wide rush and a good inside move to counter. Recognizes plays well, and is a secure tackler. Played both right and left end as part of a three-man rotation as a senior. Team leader and high effort player.

Negatives: Quickness off snap varies considerably. Wasn't productive against top competition. Has trouble disengaging from blocks. Doesn't play with a lot of power. Not stout against the run, can be controlled and pushed around and lacks an inspiring bull rush. Can change directions but is neither fast nor overly agile.

Looks like he has the physical measures to be an OLB. Hard to imagine us using a 3-4 D-linemen who is 255 lbs.

Should add to the competition amongst Zombo, Walden, and Jones. Between those three competing... is it wrong that I feel confident the OLB opposite Claymaker will be fine?

He sure seems to look like an OLB.

EDIT- So I changed his position.

I was thinking the same thing. I bet Zombo wins the job, but it is always nice to see competition between players leading to improvement across the board.

No AADP, I don't know why people don't give Zombo more credit. He's excellent against the run and gets the hustle or garbage sacks. I was also thinking we are just fine at DE without Jenkins because I hold Neal in high regard and I was amazed at the season we got from CJ Wilson. Even Wynn looked all right.

Some people might be a little disappointed in this draft from a defensive point of view, but didn't we just finish 2nd in the League? I think we'll be all right.
