Starks (Thunder)
Green (Lightning)
Kuhn (Third down pass pro specialist. Possibly short yardage guy.)

Quinn Johnson (FB)
Kuhn (Also FB)

I could see them keeping Jackson as a third down pass pro guy, but he's just not as quick as these younger, cheaper players. Plus he signed with Rosenhaus, so there's no way he'll be back.
Maybe keep Grant or Nance as depth. Not sure if Grant's ever gonna be the same after the ankle injury. Levens never was. Might be able to get something for him, though.
I see them running alot of screens this year, which should open up the short passing game ALOT, which means more high percentage slants and fewer drops. And more AWESOMENESS. Fewer lulls. MM's offense might even start living up to it's potential.
Freakiest show on turf, bitches.

So you're cutting Grant for a 3rd FB? I don't understand that... if the Packers resign Kuhn and Hall then Hall and Johnson will battle it out for a spot.

Hall is very good all around other than power blocking and staying healthy. While Johnson is great at power blocking between the tackles but isn't good at much else. I think it's gonna come down to can Hall stay healthy and how much does it bother them...

Also there is a chance they keep 3 RBs and 3 FBs with Hall as a STer or Johnson as a between the tackle run blocker.

Also wouldn't Green be the thunder and Starks be the lighting?

Johnson's proved he can catch the ball. Green's big forte is catching the ball. He's considered more of the lightening type guy.

5 catches in two years proves he can catch? Also he's dropped about 5 of more as well... Johnson is GREAT at run blocking between the tackles, but he's not good at much else. Remember the kick return by the OL in the Patriots game? There were two Packers going at him when a third Packers knocked them both out of the play... I think that third guy might of been Johnson.

Starks big forte in college was catching the ball as well and I think Starks is a better route runner and pass catcher... Green has a faster 40... but other than that I don't know any reason he's lighting to Starks Thunder...

The guy who fell on that kick return was Crosby. Starks can go up the middle and always falls forward.
I think Green will be fine up the middle, but he's gotta prove that. Bring his pad level down and the power will be there.

If your kicker is the best shot at catching a return guy, you are in huge trouble.

On that particular play, Quinn Johnson stupidly decided to put his head down and charge at the ball carrier. In the process, he took out two of his own players that had a shot to stop the Guard returning that kick.

Frankly, outside of power blocking Johnson has shown nothing else. He is slow. I'm also not sure when he proved to you that he could catch the ball, but to almost everyone else he has not shown that.

Frankly, Hall is a top special teams player and a decent FB for our scheme. Johnson is sort of a mismatch, but that is not to say the one thing he is good at is not of need for us. We could improve in short yardage situations, and its hard not to think Johnson is part of the solution.

But still, if you consider overall value to the team, it is hard to make a case that Johnson is more valuable than Hall. The only reason Johnson is in the conversation, IMO, is that Hall has had to deal with injuries.

What I think is astounding and unbelievable is that you people actually assume Grant is going to be coming back at full strength. (But then you are probably the same individuals who assumed Aaron Kampman and Al Harris were sure bets to make the roster after their injuries too -- or for that matter, that it is silly for the Packers to draft more wide receivers because they already have one of the best receiving corps in the league.) How many consecutive years must this team start out slow on the rushing front before you stop placing so much faith in it? And for that matter, why are you so blithely assuming he won't get reinjured and be lost for yet another season? It would not surprise me at all if one of the newcomers supplants Grant early in the season, even if Grant does make one of his typical midseason resurgences and take back the reins later in the season.

That being said, I do believe that Grant goes into the season as the presumptive starter, if only because I think the coaching staff will give him more chances to prove himself than (I personally would think) he probably deserves. I just get annoyed when people dismiss other possibilities out of hand, mainly out of misplaced fan loyalty. How many people would have assumed that Sam Shields would become a starter who would play a role in the Super Bowl? And yet he did. So how is it any more unbelievable to think that one of our new RB prospects might supplant Ryan Grant?
