I'm still saying we use the Billacheat method and trade for next year early picks, he seems to do it all the time. Hell they have 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds 😞 including the picks 17, 28th and 33rd overall

Ted Trades down

Normally that would not surprise me. He has done that enough times in the past. But the team does not need numbers like it did a few years ago. I think he may look for quality instead of quantity.

I think it's more about value with Thompson. Some of the best value in the draft will be in the 2nd round, imo. If certain players are gone, a trade down to the 2nd wouldn't surprise me. A lot of the players that are options at 32 are just as legitimate in round 2.

I think a trade down is more likely, but a trade up is a possibility if a guy falls. I would be surprised to see use stay put, unless a guy falls in our lap again

I agree. Thompson wouldn't be trading down with the thought of getting more players as much as he would do it to assure higher quality players through the first 3 rounds.

If he can trade back and reposition himself for lower 2nd and 3rd round picks he will end up with three or four players that would be better overall than sitting with the last pick in eack of those rounds.

I would much rather see what he could do at say 40, 64, 72, and 96, than 32, 64, and 96. Yes, this does add a pick but the quality of this option would end up much greater if you look at the board and the possibilitiies.

My thoughts are there won't be that much difference in quality giving up #32 for #40 and we are adding that #72 and there are some good names right in that part of the draft. This is just an example and who we trade with would change where we pick up or down a couple of slots.

If we trade UP it's critical to get an impact player because we are looking at something like #25 and then not picking again until #96 because the move would cost the #64.

The problem I have with this is we end up with one hopefully really good player and then picking so late again in round 3 at #96 it's basically a 4th round pick.

Ted built this team stockpiling rookies for depth and as future starters. Moving up gets away from that philosophy.

I'm with doddpower. The names that get mentioned as possible choices at #32 just don't seem like full-fledged first rounders to me. Sure, if one of those usually named before 20 were to fall all the way to 32 (Carimi, e.g.), I would expect Thompson to jump on him, but IMO that kind of thing only happens rarely.

A lot -- if not most -- of the players that are going to be available for GB at 32 are also going to be available in the first third of round 2. And none of them look to be must-have's clearly superior to those that would be available five picks later, or even ten or twelve picks later.

So, since Ted is all about value, and unless someone a half tier higher falls to him at 32 or via a short-jump trade up, I think a trade down the most likely outcome.

Agreed Wade. Ted generally sticks to his philosophy of drafting for value, just as Porky mentioned earlier. I think he would get better value (and another pick (s) ) if he trades down a bit.

I totally agree with the fact that a sure-fire first round talent might not be available at 32. If that is the case, I'm all for trading down to acquire another 3rd round pick or to move our second round pick a little higher. My only hope is that if a quality OT like Costanzo, Carimi, or Solder (maybe Sherrod) were to fall to #28, we should jump ahead of the Bears and Steelers who have similar needs. If this does not happen, we should trade down because I don't think there is a huge difference in value from 32 to picks in the 40s.

To those advocating trading for 2012 picks, Ted does not like to trade for future picks. I believe he has stated in interviews that he's spent too much time scouting this years prospects and is not sure if who would be there next year would be worth it. You also lose 1 year of development on a prospect.

It's going to be a value pick at #32, I can almost promise you that. Someone will slip through the first round, and we'll snatch them up. I'm not sure who. Tackles go early so I don't see it being on of those guys. Maybe Pouncey slips.

Otherwise, my completely random pick is Jimmy Smith, CB.

Here is the link to my mock draft.

http://www.fantasyfootballjungle.com/articles/index.php?id=1196

32. Green Bay Packers -- Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor
Perhaps no team has drafted as well as the Packers have under GM Ted Thompson. Five of Thompsons six first round pick started in Super Bowl XLV. Though they drafted Bryan Bulaga last year, the team still needs to upgrade their OL. The former Canadian firefighter, Watkins is a mauler and finishes blocks in the run game. Pairing him with RG Josh Sitton would give the Pack their best set of guards since the days of Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle.

I am sticking with OL, but if Ingram is there, he's the pick. If Watt falls as I have him doing, I think Ted Thompson could move up. Seattle would be the ideal trading partner.

They talk very highly of Jimmy Smith, and it's always with a 'but' about his character issues. Here, they feel Jimmy Smith could be one of the best if he gets his character straightened out.

Yeah, it seems like he has too many issues, but who knows. I think most/all of that stuff happened 3 years ago, and he came from a tough neighborhood. Not that any of that is an excuse, but *maybe* he has started to mature.

Judge Neslon decides to flip the draft and the packers get the number one selection but only have to pay number32 price. With the selection they draft von miller and he clay hawk and bishop become the greatest LB core in history. Wow I really need to quit drinking!
