Porforis posted this first in the shout but I thought I might as well make it a topic. Here's the link he gave . Obviously the decision is going to be appealed.

I hate to sound like an idiot but I really don't know what this means. I understand that the owners are no longer allowed to lockout the players. But does that mean free agency starts? Or does there need to be a CBA agreement before that? Does this also mean teams can start practicing at their regular facilities and talk to coaches again? I'm looking for a bit of clarification here.

EDIT: They updated the article with more information. This clears up a few questions, albeit vaguely.

If her ruling stands, it is still unclear exactly what happens next. The collective bargaining agreement has expired, so how the league would handle free agency, trades and offseason workouts at team headquarters, all of which were banned under the lockout, remains to be seen.

The NFL even argued to Nelson that stopping the lockout would open all 32 teams up to additional antitrust claims simply for working together to solve the labor dispute. Antitrust claims carry triple damages for any harm proven, meaning hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake.

But with appeals expected, the fight seems likely to drag on through the spring and, possibly, into the summer. The closer it gets to August, when training camps and the preseason get into full swing, the more likely it becomes that regular season games will be lost.

I don't think anybody really understands it. This situation seems to be fairly unique. I suppose that because this is a lockout rather than a strike, the owners are the ones who are on the defensive. When you prevent somebody (in this case, the players) from doing their job, you had better have good reason for it, and apparently this judge doesn't think they have enough reason.

I had heard that the players got to choose the judge who would decide this case. I'm not sure if that's really true, but if it was, I wonder if the owners will now get to choose a judge when they make their appeal. If that's the way it works, it could keep going back and forth for awhile. But nobody seems to know what's going to happen.

Like watching a tennis match.....with no "out of bounds". The "ball" will just keep getting knocked back and forth, with no winners.

Players show at facilities, NFL appeals ruling

And this is why my passion for the NFL is going down the tubes.

As corrupt as the NCAA is, at least they won't lock out their players. And at least the players won't strike. NCAA football >>>>>>> the NFL. And the gap keeps getting bigger.

I think the aspect that hurts both sides the most is the fan's are the ones responsible for the billions of dollars these "adults" can not agree to split between themselves. The fan that makes 25-40k a year that finds a way to watch every game, bring his son/daughter to a game once a year, buys team memorabilia (jerseys, cups, license plate holders, shirts, etc) and everything is the one who is truly being screwed, not the owners, not the players, not the retired players... the fan's who don't bitch about making 5 figures while players and owners piss and moan about wanting more than 7 figures.

There's far more to it than the numbers, but top level, I believe that's how a good majority of fan's view this.

Yup.....bunch of rich guys crying that THEY arn't rich enough.
That bugs me too. But after all, they always say "It's a business". We are seeing that now for sure.
It's all about the money.
Not like the old days, where players played for the love of the game, and even the highest paid players didn't make enough to last the year without doing jobs in the off season.
(And i don't just mean the players, owner greed is just as bad)
