Vote for this Pepsi Refresh project.. My cousin lives in the same town he resides in and has heard that it would mean a ton for their family.

Take a few moments and throw a vote their way. Thanks.

It seemed as if Treyton Kilar was never without his baseball and glove.

If you asked him his favorite class in school, he would say gym because he got to play baseball and jump around. A Brewers fan, Treyton's favorite player was Prince Fielder and one of his cherished possessions was the white Brewers jersey he was wearing when he got his picture taken with the All-Star first baseman at a fan get-together.

Treyton will be buried in his Brewers jersey.

The 6-year-old was killed last week in a traffic accident in Walworth County by a suspected drunken driver.

Treyton went to a Brewers On Deck event at the Frontier Airlines Center earlier this year wearing his baseball jersey.

"He waited in line, and he knew which ones he wanted to see. Prince was his favorite, and he got his picture with Prince, who put his arm around him," said his mother, Mary Kilar. "Treyton was so proud. He didn't let me wash that jersey."

He went to a few Brewers games; he watched the team on television and listened to games on the radio. He even watched Brewers game reruns and could recite team statistics.

"The one thing that broke our 8 o'clock bedtime was the Brewers game," Mary Kilar said.

I'm sorry to report that the Treyton Kilar Field of Dreams project in Whitewater finished third in the Pepsi Refresh Project and therefore did not receive the $250,000 in funding it sought.

For those unfamiliar with the project, the Kilar family is seeking to build a public-use sports field in Whitewater in memory of their 6-year-old son, Treyton, who was killed by a drunk driver in an automobile crash last year. Treyton was a huge Brewers fan, and in particular, a fan of Prince Fielder. The family sought funding in the Pepsi Refresh Project in on-line voting for January but only the top two vote-getters received the money.

Here is a press release put out by Matt Amundson, the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Whitewater:

"The Treyton Kilar Field of Dreams finished 3rd in its category for the month of January in the Pepsi Refresh Project and did not receive funding. We would like to thank everyone who voted, promoted the concept to others, and helped spread Treytons message. The amazing support by the Whitewater community, UW-Whitewater, local news media, the Milwaukee Brewers and so many more has been greatly appreciated by everyone. We realize that voters from across Wisconsin and the country helped a relatively small community in Southeastern Wisconsin finish 3rd amongst several national organizations and over 300 projects in the $250,000 category. This support has shown so many people that this project is a tremendous cause and that it will happen!

http://treysfield.org/ . We have some other fund-raising projects in development and will be releasing details along with a conceptual drawing of the Field of Dreams in the coming months.

Thanks!
Matt Amundson, CPRP
Parks and Recreation Director
City of Whitewater

I'm sure folks interested in donating to this cause can still do so by contacting the Kilar family and/or the Parks and Recreation Dept. in Whitewater. Here's hoping they still get this project done in memory of Treyton.
