I'm the clutter-king. I own way too much stuff. My desk always has crap on it. But I'm extremely organized as well. I know where everything is, even if the object of desire is lying on one quarter of my bedroom floor versus the other three quarters. I can pinpoint it. I also like keeping old electronics and cords because you never know when they can come in handy.
For example our router got screwed up and the internet wasn't working. The tech lady couldn't help me get the settings right on it so she sent me a new one but it would take 3-5 days to get here. I need my internet. So I went to my trusty "old technology shit" box (that's the real label), found an older router of theirs and copied the settings over to the broke one. Got it working in ten minutes.
I have too many stories like the one above to ever think about throwing away crap that could be valuable. Just recently I pulled out an old USB keyboard and monitor to setup an extended desktop for programming. It's awesome!
Of course, I have realized I own too much stuff (my van has had a bookshelf in it for months because there's no where to put it) so I'm going to have a yard sale this summer. I'll probably donate whatever doesn't sell.
