The average American consumes far more sugar than he realizes. Bear in mind that 12 grams of sugar per serving is the equivalent of 4 teaspoons. Scoop 4 teaspoons of sugar into a bowl; it's a shockingly large amount. And a serving of cereal is typically 1/4 cup or so, which is, what, a third or half of a bowl? It's not like anyone eats just one serving.

"Eating or drinking 100 grams (8 tbsp.) of sugar, the equivalent of about two cans of soda, can reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs by forty percent . The immune-suppressing effect of sugar starts less than thirty minutes after ingestion and may last for five hours."

You let a kid pour two or three servings of that cereal in his bowl, and he's already a third of the way to that 100 grams -- a figure that assumes an average 150-pound person to begin with, so for a little kid, it's going to take a lot less sugar to have the negative effect.

I don't see how this can be described as anything but a good thing. It's not like they're banning Cap'n Crunch or taking it off the market. They're just deciding not to brainwash little kids anymore. That sounds like responsible business practices to me.

Edited.. poorly phrased by myself and well just plain poor post.

Uh, where did I advocate regulation? There was no regulation imposed in this case.

And for you to say I advocate sleeping with preteens is utter bullshit. I don't care if you disagree with my opinions, but at least represent them correctly when arguing against them.

There's nothing I like better than a good ole fashioned cat fat, but come on this topic is about fat kids. Only a jackass thinks it's about human rights. (For the record the best cat fight ever was Zero and Tromadz back in the old forum).

Yes parents have the right to raise their kids anyway they choose, but then there's a lot parents out there that need their fucking heads examined aren't there?

So, read the article. Sounds like another thing lazy parents pushed for.

Get your kid active instead of sitting on their phone, laptop and/or video games all the damn time and I bet they'll be in better shape and the cereal they consume won't much an issue.

So let me see.. adult American men should be able to sleep with preteens and teenagers but we should regulate what they eat because they can't decide what is good for them to consume.

Sometimes your logic completely boggles my cortex. :microwave:

They aren't banning Cap'n Crunch but this is still another example of Obama not supporting our military personnel. How can't he support such a hero ?

Join NFL Play 60 or something, american youth. I've always been able to eat whatever I wanted because I get enough exercise. Eating a lot isn't a problem if you burn it too.

Simple science - you cannot create matter out of nothing. If you don't eat, you'll wither away. If all you do is eat, you'll balloon up. If you burn off 2000 calories a day and eat 2000 calories a day, you'll stay exactly the same.

Well there is more to food than just calories, including many nutrients you should be getting and many that are harmful if you ingest too much, but yeah, exercise is vastly important.

Trying to lose weight by changing your diet alone is stupid. If it works it will take a long time and there won't be much for results. If you exercise regularly you'll be able to eat whatever you want for the most part. This is coming from a fat guy too. I just enjoy food and hate exercise :P

Genetics also play a key role in how your body handles food.

I lost ~60 pounds in a depression-fueled starvation period. Actually, it screwed with my metabolism in a good way, I don't get nearly as hungry anymore as I used to. However, being able to just eat when I want and not gain weight just makes it harder for me to eat nutritious food rather than junk. You can't have it all.

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT CALORIES, IT IS ABOUT GOVERNMENT CONTROL ON OUR EVERDAY LIVES. Children who are fat need help because they have not been raised properly. Playing and exercise is a natural thing for a child, they should not need to be coerced by the NFL to play for 60 minutes, it's all they should want to do. Video games and dumbass parents are to blame. If the government has to make small attempts to correct this problem, then I have no problem with that - they are not Nazis.

Make no mistake, this country has a Nazi party forming - they are called the Tea party (extreme right wingers forcing their will on everything). We can discuss the underlying racism in another thread.
