Doubt the Packers will outright cut him over this, but it wouldn't shock me to see the NFL fine or suspend him for a game after being found guilty.

No contest isn't exactly the same as guilty. Dude just got a fine. Did Eugene Robinson get suspended? Don't recall.

I find it amusing that "non-marital sexual intercourse" is still a crime in the supposedly progressive state of Wisconsin.

According to the article, it's "Prostitution - non-marital sexual intercourse", with a definition of: "a person intentionally has non-marital sex for anything of value. It has a maximum penalty of $10,000 in fines and 9 months imprisonment."

In this case, I'm not sure what Underwood was getting of value in return for the non-marital sex...

So, by pleading no-contest to the prostitution charge--does that officially make him a male prostitute???

I don't believe Roger Goodell was the Commissioner during that time, nor was there a Personal Conduct Policy enforced either.

Effectively, no contest is exactly the same as guilty. The only practical difference is you don't have to "publish" -- publically announce, if you will -- your guilt. In most cases, the penalty is the same.

Isn't pleading no contest basically saying you're guilty, but without admitting guilt? That's what a judge told me when I said I didn't know the difference, lol. The best part was, I asked "I don't think I'm guilty, but I don't want to drag this out, what would you plead?" he kind of smiled and said, no contest. I said okay "No Contest your honor". He dropped my fine down to the court costs, plus 20 bucks.

Pretty much. You're basically saying there's alot of evidence against you, but you're not conceding that you actually did it, per se.

I believe the non-marital disclaimer means that, say, having sex with your wife in exchange for buying her a necklace, isn't a crime. Which would technically be marital prostitution. =)

Not that non-marital sex is a crime.

No, that is an Alford plea, which is were you admit that the prosecutor has enough evidence to convict you, while still maintaining your innocence. A nolo contendere (no contest) plea, as far as the court is concerned, is an admission of guilt; you just don't have to publish your guilt later. It is a weird technicality. You don't have to verbally admit it for the record in court, and I suppose you wouldn't, say, have to admit it to a future employer. But it is certainly a concession of guilt.
