Funny story yesterday from my college education class I teach. We had a strong cold front push in overnight Wednesday into Thursday. By strong, I mean East/ Northeast winds through the canyons at 30-45 mph and moderate snowfall with it. Windchills hit in the 25-40 below zero. Nothing really to drastic. You learn to live and drive and work with it.
In my class is a student from Jamaica. He is a senior, but went to school in Jamaica for his first three years. When I got to the gym we were using for this days lessons, he was standing looking out one of the windows at the snow blowing sideways over the top of Grizzly Stadium and students trying to get as quickly as possible from their cars to classrooms.
Me: "Hey Raul, what you looking at?"
Raul: " This weather. Man, what do you people do all winter."
Me: "Uh, we uh, ah,..........well, there's a lot of babies born between August and October here. And skiing and snowmobiling. And.......hey Raul, did you know there's a luge run and skeleton sled run up at Lolo Hot Springs? Ya got any Jamaican friends here? You could start a Jamaican Luge team or Skeleton sled team."
Raul: funny look at me. "Oh mon. What the fuck was I thinking when I came up here.? I could be on the beach now laughing at you people. Instead I'm one of those people. Gotta get my head examined when I get home."
What did he expect when he enrolled here? Did he get Missoula and Miami mixed up?
Anyone for a Weenie Roast?
