With that 'dog shit' OL, AP did just fine.

"zombieslayer" wrote:

Yeah, he led the team to a 6-10 season. If that's what you call just fine, you got Raider fan expectations.

"Formo" wrote:

?? I said AP did fine. As in his production. I didn't say 'The Vikes did just fine'. Smartass.

Hopefully next year you'll get to play teams like the Bills so you'll have a few easy wins. But we'll sweep you next year. As will the Lions. At best, you'll split with da Bears.

"zombieslayer" wrote:

I disagree. Depending on how many games are played next year, I'm thinking the Vikes will split the series with every NFC North team. The Bears got lucky a few games last year (against the Vikes I mean), and face it.. the first game with a busted down Favre, the Vikes almost beat your precious World Champs. And the Lions always play the Vikings tough, and with Stafford healthy they'll finally steal one.

I watched your games last year as you know I'm a Favre fan. Jared Allen looked lost. Your DL looked like it took 3 steps back from '09. The team didn't have any chemistry or spark.

"zombieslayer" wrote:

Never underestimate the power of a FA or a young, strong DT to shake things up. That's pretty much all the Vikings need on the DL. Didn't help that their secondary was getting burned every play, either. See, the way they have been successful in the past was to have pretty good short-term coverage, allowing the DL to eat up the QB (just look at the amount of times the Vikings sacked Rodgers last year). With the injuries and lack of depth at DB last year, the Vikings weren't able to employ that style of play. Ya'll act like there isn't a single player returning for the Vikings.. They have some key positions with some needs, but that's what the FA pool and Draft is for. And if the Vikes keep drafting the way they have been, I'm not worried too much.

You still got AP, but even the best RB in the NFL (yes, he's the best for those who say otherwise) won't be able to lead your team to an 8-8 record. That OL will probably get your 3rd QB some playing time next season (if there is a next season).

"zombieslayer" wrote:

Yup. AP's still there. Just need a QB, a OL coach that utilizes the right scheme for the talent available, and all of a sudden the offense could be good.

Formo, aren't you forgetting a few things like getting free agents signed, and which ones to choose from? Right now you can't even field a team yet alone forecast anything about what you think can get done. The Vikings need a f'n miracle to happen to be a playoff worthy team. The fact of the matter is that Jared Allen was very expensive because you gave up a lot of high picks to get him. Those picks in the hands of a capable GM are starters now. I view the Vikings as having bare cupboards in the area of support players. It's true you have some quality skilled players, but can you honestly sit there and say that you have the horses up front on either side of the ball? Don't be suprised if you are cellar dwellers for a few years. Think of it as penance for having an owner that doesn't know shit about football, who hired a coach with an unwarranted beefed up resume', who was in way over his head. Favre got you to the big dance last year in spite of Chilly.

Not to stick up too much for Formo or the vikings but I think trading for Allen was not a bad gamble. They came within a Favre of making it to the SB. IF they had, giving up those picks who have been worth it to them. They missed so it now is considered a bad decision.

Uhhh.. EVERY team has players going into free agency. That point is so damn moot. As far as Allen goes, they basically said he was their 1st round choice. Not to mention they already knew what they were getting when they got him (unlike most every other first round picks go.. Leif anyone?).. The biggest gamble was whether or not he'd continue getting behind the wheel after some brews. They only gave up a first and two 3rds (swapped 6ths).

As far as the bigguns. They are really only one DT player away from filling whatever hole Phat Pat leaves and like I said before, a OL scheme away from bringing back the Minnesota Moving Company.

It's funny how you rip on their owner, like he has anything to do with getting any of those players. He just signs the checks. Yeah, he liked Chilly. So did your man Teddy Thompson. And to be fair, Chilly should helped build a pretty good and very talented team (save the QB position). 2 ORotYs and some other solid players like Rice, Allen, Shiancoe, etc. The guy, I admit, wasn't the best HC the Vikes have had.. But he still had a hand on building the team, and unlike VR, I'm not going to take it personal that he sucked more than he was good at being a HC. He shoulda just became a GM or personnel manager of sorts.

Formo, what makes you think you will retain Edwards, Rice, and Greenway? I say you lose the two you don't franchise tag and then you have two more huge holes to fill. I.E. nobody wants to play there.

Your owner should be a football man, and furthermore a Minnesota football man, and if you need to be provided a reason why; then there is no hope for you in this argument. But here is the reason: Zygi doesn't give a rats ass about the Vikings fans or tradition, nor did his predecessor Red McCombs. If he doesn't get his stadium this year, say goodbye to your beloved team.

Who's your quarterback? Taking whatever scrap heap QB there is in free agency is no way to run a football team. The Vikings should have gone after Drew Brees, but they were too busy tampering with Favre for that. You'll probably end up with Donovan McNabb.

Formo, you are a lot farther from plugging a rookie DT into that defense from being a contender. You are in denial stage right now, but hang in there, acceptance is right around the corner.

Well Formo, I just read that you tagged Greenway, so say goodbye to Edwards and Rice. In fact, I'd love it if the Packers snagged Rice just to give you a big old shitburger to eat. We don't really need him but he would add the jump ball dimension that the Packers only have with Finley right now. Of course, when you have surgeon at QB, you don't really need to have a jump ball receiver.

Seems like the Williams wall will have to serve their 4 game suspension this year. Pat will probably retire. But that will still leave a giant hole next to the giant hole Edwards is going to leave.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

? Because once a team tags a player they aren't allowed to sign any other soon-to-be free agent?

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
