Thinking it might be time for a new laptop. Had the current one for just under two years.

What do you use it for?

I have a Toshiba Satelite and this thing does pretty much everything I've asked of it (even played Left4Dead on minimum graphic settings). A little choppy on HD videos streamed from the web-r-nets (full screened), but otherwise it's pretty damn good. I think this one was on sale for $300-$400 at the time it was bought (2 years ago I think?).

Normal my ass. I was going to say, you can find a laptop for a LOT less than $700, but if you want a beefy graphics card (for a laptop), hard drive, and 4GB of RAM like you'll use for video editing you'll end up a lot closer to the 700-800 range. Also keep in mind that with a beefy graphics card comes a lot more heat and decreased battery life, so don't expect to be able to lounge around naked on the beach with this thing on your lap for 6 hours. Unless you don't mind sterilization and second degree burns.

I've done a lot of laptop shopping for family and friends, and there's actually a friend I'm currently seeking a laptop for. (EDIT: Oh, and my brother) How soon are you planning to buy (and did you ever buy that TV?)? I'm assuming you prefer new, but how opposed are you to a refurbished laptop with a 1+ year warranty if it saves you $200+?

Number keypad and at least a display of or greater than 15.6 is pretty much a necessity for me.

I normally don't use my laptop off a power source for more than an hour at time if at all. Maybe 10 minutes on the throne from time to time.

I'm not planning on getting one until I get my work bonus in a week or two. My current laptop works really good yet so I'm not in a dire need, but I like to upgrade once every two years.

I did not get the TV. I like mine too much to get rid of it, lol.

A numpad? Would almost have to be a 17" screen just based on the size required for the keyboard + dedicated numpad. To be honest I've never bothered looking at 17"+ laptops to know if some have numpads because they've never interested me or anyone else I've bought/researched for. I'll keep an eye out though.

TV: Uber el cheapo 42" 1080p, 10000:1 contrast ratio. Available for the next 4 hours, $339.99. 

The one I have now is a HP G60, 15.6 display with a numpad. They're quite common nowadays. Old timer. 🙂

So no chance I can sell you my old Dell Latitude D830 for $700, eh? It comes with a huge 80GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 2.0Ghz Core2Duo, phenomenal 30 minute battery life, and a dedicated video card (Quadro NVS 140M). And I'm making you pay shipping.

On a serious note, I'll keep an eye out and talk to my brother to see just how serious and soon he's wanting to buy one. If I've got three people that are willing to buy right now, I'm that much more likely to actively hunt rather than rely on Wootalyzer and emails from Newegg and Tigerdirect.

LoL I have two laptops that top that already that are collecting dust in my basement. 🙂

I've checked into those last two sites too. I'm taking notes on what I find. If I can't find something better/worth the money to improve from what I have, I'll hold off.

I have a similar model, if you customize it you can add a NVidia video card, but the cost will jump.
