Now that the Lombardi Trophy has again taken up residence in Green Bay, next on Packers president Mark Murphy's to-do list is working out contract extensions for general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

The football operations leaders are under contract for the next two years, but Murphy emphasized he wants the duo in Green Bay for several more years.

"We want Ted and Mike to be with the Packers long term, and Im confident that they will be," Murphy said.

The Packers won their fourth Super Bowl -- and first since the 1996 season -- in spite of a run of injuries in which 15 players, including six starters, went on injured reserve and two more starters -- cornerback Charles Woodson and wide receiver Donald Driver -- left the game during the first half of Sunday's 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"It's a tribute to Ted Thompson that he's really put together a team that should be good for a number of years," Murphy said. "But I've been around the NFL long enough to know that each year stands on its own. It's going to be a real challenge."

According to the Sun-Times, McCarthy is paid $3.4 million per season. By comparison, new San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh's contract averages $5 million, sources have told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora, and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick reportedly makes $7.5 million.

McCarthy was clear about his future wishes Monday.

"I would hope this is my last job," McCarthy said. "I'm a builder, and we have built something special. This program was built the right way, has quality people in Aaron Rodgers and all the way through that are going to lead this football team for a long time."

I read this and I thought Great! - but the first thing on my mind was what about Dom Capers.

If we didnt have capers this season IMO we wouldnt have made it to the big game. Our D rocked the house this season; and especially the last 6 games where we played lights out. And I cant help wonder how well our guys played vs the steelers D; with the blitz pickups etc ... we have had good practice this season vs the 3-4.

I mean a +3 turnover ratio in the superbowl was key to winning.

I hope we get capers in on the action with the above signages ...

This line bothered me. What is he implying, that Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy -- or both -- could conceivably be fired after a bad year?

I said it in another thread and will say it here. If players can't get extension until their final year neither should coaches and GMs.
they certainly deserve the extension just wait.

I took it to be referring to how good the team would be from year to year, and that repeating as champs next year is no gimme.

Brad Childress and Wade Phillips both were, after having great seasons the year before. However, I agree with Bumpy that this was in reference to being a winning team. But being a winning team has a strong correlation to the longevity of a coach and GM.

dfosterf (10h) : I can find that the Microsoft lady rep for Titletown Tech is the philanthropy boss for the entire Microsoft corporation, but. .
Zero2Cool (11h) : There's a toggle for light/dark theme. Super easy.
dfosterf (11h) : The white background beta was hard to read, especially the quotes
dfosterf (11h) : Hopefully the color scheme remains the same
dfosterf (11h) : *Friday*
dfosterf (11h) : 100 million would be 539 million as of Fridsy
dfosterf (11h) : Heck, they could have taken a hundred milliion and invested in DAVE inc. last year (semi random, humor, but real)
dfosterf (12h) : Beer brat and ticket is where the money comes from
dfosterf (12h) : The 40th is Titletown Tech itself. This is a pet project of both Ed Policy and Mark Murphy

dfosterf (12h) : I swear if I were to discover that one of them has invented a virtue signalling transmitter I will not be surprised, lol
dfosterf (13h) : 39 companies so far that I bet no one has ever heard of.
dfosterf (13h) : -Not saying woke, but should- borderline philanthopist venture capital excercise
dfosterf (13h) : Well for one, they are pouring resources into Title Town Tech. Investing beer, brat, hot dog, ticket money into what is pretty much...
beast (19h) : Wow, 95% drop in investment revenue? Would be interesting to hear the details of why...
dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Any plans to hold Maureen Smith (CFO) accountable for a 95% drop in investment revenue?

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Maybe a low flying drone
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Did Savion Williams run into a goalpost or something?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : also, no bueno when a guy starts getting concussions right off the bat in his career
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Concussion is worse. Banks probably vet off day via back booboo claim
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : @AndyHermanNFL Jordy Nelson out at camp today. No word if he’s in play for one of the two open roster spots ; )
