Al Harris was a warrior on this team for many a year.. he was a leader and a great teammate.

He was part of this team for a good share of this season and he left the team with a classy farewell.

So would you show him a great deal of respect, sign him to a token contact and give him a ring?

No. He didn't play a down this year.

Should they resign Aaron Kampman and give him a ring too?

What about Ahman Green? Where do you draw the line?

To me, Harris went through all the offseason work.. was on the roster for more than half the year and in the end was excused.

But if you want to be a ass about it.. so be it.

Kampman, Green were not on the roster this season.. pretty simple line to me.

Aaron Kampman, no. He wasn't ever on the roster this [strike]year[/strike] season.
Ahman Green, no. He wasn't ever on the roster this [strike]year[/strike] season.

Al Harris was on PUP. He wore the Packers colors during his rehab. He took out a one page ad thanking the fans. I would not be upset if we gave him a ring.

I think the bigger question would be, would Al want a ring that he didn't help earn?

You don't think that he helped some of the youngsters on this team in the offseason? You seen him on the sideline every game talking with the other players, showing support. In the Viking game at Lambeau I seen him talking with Shields several times with his hands going.

Now I don't know if he did.. if he didn't.. what he was talking with Shields about..

But if he did help those guys.. provide leadership.. didn't he do as much to earn it than a player that left the team to rehab elsewhere and not support his team from the sidelines?

IM.. Agreed.. I am guilty of jumping to a conclusion that he is done playing ball.

I was thinking about that Al may not have been on the field, and I cknow why they let him go seeing as he was injured in a game with the dolphins, but I would like him to get a ring I think he would have helped out if returned.

I don't think Harris is going to retire at this point(though I think he should) too proud. I would have to guess the Packers give him a ring. He has meant so much to this franchise over the years.

No.

Much as I love him, saying something like that just makes you a homer.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Harris wouldn't want it. I think it's kind of insulting, but that's just me.

That's what I've been thinking. But Pack makes a good point about Harris's support and mentoring of other DBs this season. The team gets lots of rings and they can give them to whoever they want. Al might be a good choice, even if it would be a bittersweet momento for him, at best.

I'd give him a ring. Yes.

He's a big reason that the Packers have even gotten this far. He helped our entire secondary (with exception to Sam Shields, as far as I know).

True Packer at heart, I hope that he gets a ring, even though it will not likely happen. (But don't give him a ring over someone that's on the team and truly deserves one).

No, he wasnt on the team this year and it is that simple really. Johnny Jolly shouldnt get a ring either for the record. I wont care one way or another to be honest, but Al Harris missed a ring. It is a shame and sad, but sometimes the NFL works that way. Sterling Sharpe missed the 96 team because of injury. I know he retired after 94, but he would have been a Packer if not for injury. He didnt get a ring from the Packers. Unfortunately, injuries happen and the Pack knows that more than anyone does.

But the difference, as Pack has already pointed out, is that Harris actually was a member of the team this year, even if he didn't see any game action. Practice squad players get rings even though they don't play. If they get rings, why not Al?

Being on the PUP is technically not the same as being a member of the team. PUP is basically a protection plan, so you can evaluate a player more as they recover from injury. Also, Harris was a fallback plan because they wanted to look at Sam Shields. Harris was never on the actual roster from training camp throughout the season. I think that is worth noting.

I think a ring should be offerred and I would be happy if he accepted.
I could however understand if he declined.

Al wouldn't take it.
