This was my weekend:
Friday-
1. I turned 50. Not too bad of a deal. I guess that makes me old now. (At least to AARP.)
2. At my birthday lunch my son tells me he just got his orders to fly to Afghanistan on Tue. (We thought he would have 3 weeks before he went instead he got 3 days. So much for an pleasant meal together.)
3. Went to a visitation for a man that I insure. He died of prostate cancer just like my Dad did. Talked to the deceased's son about my Dad's cancer so that he could compare it to what his father went through.
4. It was just a little over a year ago that my Dad passed away so I got to relive it in great detail. Rah.
Saturday-
1. Funeral for the gentleman above.
2. I can not remember the rest of Saturday at all. (I must be getting old.)
Sunday-
1. My son came to Church for the final time before he ships out.
2. Watched him say goodbye to all the Mothers and Grandmothers who have known him all his life. Many of them held him in their arms when he was a baby. It was hard for him. It was hard for them. It was hard for me and my wife.
Monday-
1. Got to have breakfast one last time and say goodbye one more time to him.
2. Help him get his last items organized. (Car rental, allergy pills, other supplies lined up. Could see his stress building up whenever there was a little snag. Ok his Mother really helped him with most of this. But it is my credit card that he is taking to Hertz.)
Tuesday- (I know. I know. The weekend is over by now.)
1. He flies out sometime in the afternoon. (It is bad enough when the FAA wants people to be at the airport 2 hours before their flight. He and his unit has to be there 6 hours before their flight.)
NEXT WEEKEND-
My daughter and I go to the Bears game!See there is always hope.
