I'd have to give the nod to Walden. Overall, he has shown he is more athletic than Zombo and he is a lot more of an explosive player. He is also fresh coming into the Super Bowl. Zombo has been out for quite awhile and the last thing the Packers probably want to do is put a rusty OLB in the game against a good running team.

(Zombo still has the best name on the team...)

I am echoing the sentiments of the majority of posters in this thread in saying I would prefer Walden to be the starter, BUT, I would prefer a somewhat late decision.

Whilst their skillsets are a little different, they both provide something to think about and I would hope that the healthier of the two come Sunday gets the gig.

Everyone keeps bring up the Bears week 17 game for Walden. But while Walden was pretty good in pass rush he was the reason for I think the Bears 3 biggest runs that game... because he's not the most physical or best run stopper.

I think Mike McCarthy said Walden is gonna get the start as he's been starting and Zombo hasn't been playing but if they're both at 100% then i think I'd prefer Zombo in this one... he's been pretty impressive against the run. Not a huge factor in pass rush but the Steelers OL aren't that good at pass blocking ether... they're all run blocking guys... so the Packers (like other teams should get passed their OL just fine)... the problem is then getting to Ben and tackling him... he's by far the hardest QB to tackle once you have him...

So basically I'd say if they're both 100% then Walden vs. passing teams and Zombo vs. running teams... the Steelers are a running team.

How many big runs has Walden given up in the playoffs? I can't specifically think of any. Maybe he learned his lesson from that week 17 game and is no longer allowing himself to get pinned inside by blockers on edge runs.

Platooning Zombo and Walden depending on the situation would be the best of both worlds, but I still tend to favor Walden overall because Zombo hasn't played in over a month now. And if the Steelers are in the two-minute offense, Walden is our man.

I'm just hoping they're both healthy. It would be great to have each of them available for the game.

Irving, Texas -The choice defensive coordinator Dom Capers will probably have to make Sunday is whether to start a less-than-healthy Erik Walden or a rusty Frank Zombo at right outside linebacker.

Walden practiced for the first time Wednesday since suffering a high ankle sprain in the NFC Championship and was scheduled to go again Thursday.

But based on what he did in practice, there's nothing to indicate that he's anywhere back to his old self. And if he can't push off the way he wants, Capers might have to go with Zombo.

"I'm still stiff and sore and I'm not able to explode like I want to," Walden said. "We have a couple days left. I feel real good about it, the progress I'm making, and I'm looking forward to the game."

Walden put on the pads with the rest of the team Wednesday and banged around in team drills. He said it felt good to get back out with his teammates and play football again.

However, Walden said the ankle was hurting him while he was practicing and he wasn't surprised that it was sore the next day. He said he went to get treatment immediately afterward and then stayed in his room at night icing the ankle.

That's his plan again today.

Capers said he's not sure what direction he'll go on Sunday.

"He was out there getting some reps," Capers said of Walden. "He and Zombo split the time. I would imagine the first time (he'd be sore), that that's the process he's going to have to through. Hopefully, today what he does, maybe he's not as sore tomorrow and by Sunday he's ready to go."

Asked if there was a chance he'd have to start Zombo, Capers said, "That's something we'll have to evaluate. Frank has been out for a long time, five or six weeks, but Frank had three good days of practice last week."

The bottom line, Walden said, is that he'll do what's best for the team.

"I'm not going to get out there and jeopardize my team," Walden said. "I just feel good about the progress I was making, being that I was in a boot and now i'm able to walk normal and able to run. There are just a couple things bothering me. But I feel good about the progress."

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
