I liked Zombo, but I don't recall him dominating in a game like Walden did against the Bears in Week 17.

Yeah, for no other reason than this I go with Walden. He's a guy, when the other team is watching tape, you see that chicago game and all of a sudden you've gotta game plan for this guy, I think moreso than a guy like Zombo, because we've all seen what happens when you dont do a good job against him.

Zombo had a lot of opportunities across from Mathews, who was getting double and triple teamed, Walden is the only guy who has really show the ability to take full advantage of the lack of attention given to him, to the tune of 3 sacks.

Packers LB Zombo back at practice Friday; Walden rests ankle

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Packers have some questions about their depth at outside linebacker as they prepare for the Super Bowl.

Frank Zombo is back at practice, but Erik Walden sat out Friday and might not return to the practice field until next week, leaving his status for the Feb. 6 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers in doubt.

Zombo is an undrafted free agent who became a starter in the wake of injuries. He has missed the Packers' last six games because of a right knee injury but said Friday he had no pain.

Walden was signed in midseason and has played well. He hurt his ankle during last Sunday's NFC Championship Game victory at Chicago.

The Packers practice in Green Bay this weekend before traveling to Texas on Monday.

Walden I think is a little better

Zombo is more physical. We saw that with his sacks in the Pre-Season. Walden is more athletic.

I expect Zombo to start while Capers rotates Walden in during obvious passing situations.

I was reading an article about how Zombo and Jones were the two of the least successful players at pressuring the quarterback. Let me see if i can find that article

Well it looks like Walden is the starter, if healthy.

McCarthy:

(If Walden can go on Wednesday, is he the starter?)
Well be fine. Erik Walden is our starting outside linebacker. Hes not going to be replaced because of an injury. Hes earned that through his production down the stretch here. Hes going through a medical situation right now, and well give him every opportunity to get ready for the game.

A somewhat decent pass rusher and horrible run suppor player or an average player against both the pass and the run.

I don't really have that big of a preference here.

Who would be better? I would go with Walden, for the reasons everybody else, including Mike McCarthy, has cited, but putting Zombo in there on obvious run downs gives us the best of both worlds.

tough choice. Biggest game of their lives. Both will be pumped up. But I hope they don't get so excited they forget to play their position.
Walden gets the nod unless the Coach sees something he can exploit in Pitt.

I'll admit that I haven't focused on Walden much lately, but when Zombo was playing I always thought he got swallowed a lot on run plays. Apparently I'm the only one in this forum that feels that way (that or Walden is even worse).

I'd like Walden in there, for the sake of continuity. BangtheDrum is right on.
