A man accused of leaving an El Lago restaurant without paying his tab was arrested a short time later on a trespassing charge by the Lakeview Police Department.
According to a police report, an employee at Gabacho's Mexican Restaurant in the 4400 block of NASA Parkway called police to report the theft.
When officers responded, they learned that the man was seen walking toward a vacant building on the other side of the road after leaving the restaurant.
Police checked the area and found an open door in the back of the building.
An officer went inside and called out, "Marco."
The man's name was not Marco, detective Tim Dohr said. Instead, "the officer was trying to inject some humor into the situation."
Police found the suspect after he responded, "Polo."
The restaurant manager declined to press charges for the theft.
Police charged the man with criminal trespass and took him to the Harris County Jail.
"We have no idea why he chose to hide in the building. He wasn't pursued there. He just left the restaurant and walked over there," Dohr said.

Webster police investigated the burglary of a school and church on March 5.
The incident occurred at the Westminster Academy in the 600 block of E. Medical Center Blvd. When police arrived, they learned that there had been no forced entry into the building, but that thieves forcibly entered several rooms and offices of the school and church and stolen various items, according to reports.
Eight interior doors worth $100 apiece were damaged, and more than $180 worth of items were stolen.
Seven arrested after fight at Texas City carnival
Texas City police arrested seven people March 3 after a fight broke out between suspected rival gang members.
Police Cpl. David Viel said the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at a carnival in the 2800 block of Palmer Highway.
Off-duty officers were working at the carnival when "numerous subjects, displaying blue and red bandanas in their pockets, began throwing gang signs. Several fights broke out at once," Viel said.
Police arrested four people ages 18 to 22 for disorderly conduct, an 18-year-old for resisting and evading arrest and a 17-year-old for resisting arrest and interfering with public duties.
Police also arrested a 20-year-old man for unlawfully carrying a firearm, Viel said.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
Police charge couple accused of having sex in car
Galveston County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested a man and a woman, both from Houston, for public lewdness Feb. 17.
A sheriff's deputy patrolling the beach early that morning noticed a car parked near Melody Lane in Crystal Beach. He saw a man and a woman having sex inside the car, according to a sheriff's department report. As the 29-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were being transported to jail, "they indicated they thought the beach was an appropriate place for this activity," the report states.
