Jets over Colts was a great game, even though I was sticking up for the Colts. What was the deal with that last timeout the Colts called, though? I think there were 28 seconds left, and the clock was running, and the Jets were at the edge of field goal range--around the 32 yard line. It was second and eight. The Jets had one more timeout, but they were saving it for the field goal attempt. At that point the Colts called a timeout, which not only gave the Jets more time, but also gave them time to call a play. Sanchez then hit Edwards down the sideline to set up an easy field goal.

That timeout was one of the oddest calls I've seen. The announcers thought that they must be calling it to give the offense some time after the Jets kicked their field goal, but because it was only second down, the Jets were in a position to run the clock down to zero anyway. Peyton Manning looked angry on the sideline, and I don't blame him. It's amazing how badly coaches choke in the playoffs sometimes--and this is a coach who should know better.

Yes it was weird. Nick Folk is a choker from over 40 yards, so the Jets getting closer probably won them the game.

Nice job Caldwell.

I was as confused as Manning, did you see the look on his face when the timeout was called?

It didn't make any sense. I was shocked, I assumed it was the Jets that used their timeout.

I hope he goes to the Vikings. Would love to see CM3 put him on his ass two games a year.

By the way, I said it before and I'll say it again. Playoffs are often won by aggressiveness. The Jets' coach showed he had bigger balls than the Colts' coach. That 2nd to last play in the game said it all.

My only thought on the TO was that there may have been a problem with the defensive unit on the field. It is the only thing that makes sense in my mind. Then again Caldwell gave up on a perfect season so the guy could be completely nuts for all I know. Sanchez stunk that game for the most part. That game was much closer than it needed to be.

Agreed, TKE. There's no way the Jets can possibly go into next week with confidence. Except for the very last play, Sanchez failed miserably on every key play that game.

Considering that he went 3 for 3 on the final drive, I'm not sure what your definition of "failed miserably" is. He was pretty bad in the first half, though.

Oh, it was either a typo, or I thought his screen name was TheKanataKilla, I guess.

Fine, to appease Greg C.: Sanchez was lousy the entire game except for the final drive. I don't think that makes him clutch; I think he just lucked out. But who knows -- Eli Manning has survived in the NFL primarily on the merits of his improbable Super Bowl run, despite settling firmly back into mediocrity since then. I do wonder how long his Super Bowl cachet will last him before he finally gets relegated to the backup role he deserves.

It was a pretty good Wild Card weekend for me. All three of the teams I rooted for won. I'm no Jets fan, and I particularly dislike Sanchez, but except when he's playing the Patriots, a Peyton Manning defeat is always sweet. And while I'm also no Seahawks fan, I do have a soft spot for the underdog; and even more to the point, I find the idea of a 7-9 team making it to the playoffs most hilarious, even more so a losing team winning a playoff game, and most of all, the thought of a losing team hosting a conference championship game. I didn't really have an iron in the fire for the Ravens/Chiefs game, though I would have liked to see Cassell beat Flacco; but I was at work so I didn't get to watch the game anyway. And of course, watching the Packers notch their first postseason victory in three years was sweetness itself.

By the way, did anyone besides me notice how many former Packers were in the Saints/Seahawks game? They weren't necessarily all active, but Colin Cole, Darren Sharper, Matt Hasselbeck, Ruvell Martin, Matt Giordano, DeShawn Wynn, and Breno Giacomini all come immediately to mind. It was a veritable boulevard of broken dreams. Were there any others?
