I dunno, I still think the WR are running "after the catch" before catching the ball. I think if they follow the ball into their hands, they'd drop far less.

what a strange thread this has become.

anyway....re: receivers. I still don't want to lose James Jones in free agency, though I think we will.

And going back to the "drops" question. I wonder if drops are generally up across the league. I don't have a scientific sample -- just my occasional watching of other games -- but I don't notice packer receivers generally having more drops than other teams.

I have two questions.

First, on Jennings' first drop (the one where a Bears jumped offsides and Rodgers threw it deep) was there pass interference? It looked to me like the the DB was dragging Jennings down before the ball got there. I haven't gotten a chance to look at the replay, so input would be appreciated.

Second, how much time do our receivers spend on ball security? In our offense, our receivers usually get more touches than our running backs. With this in mind, isn't it just as important (if not more important) that they work on ball security? The fumbles piss me off more than the drops. Our receivers have 10 fumbles (Jennings 4, Jones 3, Nelson, 1, Driver 1) than our RBs (4 total - Jackson 2, Kuhn 2) and QBs (5 total - Rodgers 4, Flynn 1).

My respect level for A-Rod goes up immensely, when you consider how little help he has gotten from the WRs and the running game. He's really carried this offense on his back with a lot of class considering how easy it would be for him to blame his teammates (who deserve it!)

Also, I watch a lot of other games, and receivers drop passes in every one of them.

Y'know, I thought of this after I posted and was watching the night game...which means subsequently watching receivers drop balls and wondering "Do any of these guys making these statements actually watch games that aren't Packer games?" Because telling me these guys don't care is one of the silliest things I can think of. These guys don't want a superbowl ring? You're joking, right? I mean, sorry if they're not doing a good enough job for y'all, but when it comes down to it...they're not doing it for y'all. They're doing it because they want to win.

It's not lethargy or lack of focus. Sometimes shit just doesn't work the way you want it to. Heck, you could even make an argument that they're too focused and trying too hard and it's messing with their heads. These guys are some of the most talented, good natured, hard working receivers in the league and you think you can make that kind of judgment call? Just plain foolish. Do they all need to start performing better? Yes, of course. And they damn well know this and I'm sure it drives them crazy. If I fucked up that much as a musician my band wouldn't have any fans so that shit drives me crazy. But am I going to wave my arms and go "You're not trying hard enough! You don't even care!" every time something bad happens? Geez Louise. I kinda can't believe I'm reading this crud.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

This I agree with. They're going for YAC when they need to get in their heads in order to get YAC, you have to catch the ball first.

I'd say a more accurate assessment has been expressed several times by zombieslayer: at several points this season, for no obvious reason, morale on this team has seemed to be low.

Low morale <> lack of desire for a ring.

Kevin raises a good point. I think a similar critique could be raised with respect to all the dropped interceptions this year: it has often seemed that the DBs were looking to make a dash for the end zone before they had secured the ball.

"Little to no spirit at all". Right. I'd like to see any of these receivers' reaction to that statement. It's either hyperbole, or it's just plain foolishness.

Ohhhhh, ok. Well if zombieslayer said so then--

Yeah, no. Not buying it. These are just reactionary armchair analyses. Not a single fan out there who isn't involved in the personal lives knows what's going on in their heads. That said, if you're going to go ahead and play guessing games about the inner demons of our Packers, I just don't see where you're coming up with that idea. Low morale just doesn't fit these guys' personalities. They haven't been acting like that in press conferences, on NFL network, on the sidelines or at the games. I'm almost always seeing the guys smiling at some point throughout the games.

Low morale <> lack of desire for a ring.

Bad technique <> Low morale

see below:

Like I said earlier I do believe some of these guys know they have explosive capabilities for the big play and sometimes run the play in their head before they make it and end up fucking up. Sometimes it's just bad technique (i.e. the Driver or Jordy fumbles). But this is EVERY player on EVERY team. Find me a perfect player or team and I'll start yawning...and those yawns will likely turn into disinterest in the game itself. Might as well put androids inn'er. Don't get me wrong, the bad plays had me screaming yesterday. But calling out the players for lack of effort or spirit? Shit, son.

beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.

beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
