Sad sad sad. Al was one of my favorite players. Wish he could have left on his own terms, rather than because of injuries.

I'm sure the Packers will resign him after the season so he can retire as a Packer (assuming Al wants to).

The Miami Dolphins cut ties with veteran cornerback Al Harris.

He has been released from injured reserve, a league source confirmed.

Harris, 36, was signed by the Dolphins following a tryout after being cut by the Green Bay Packers after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Harris appeared in three games before being placed on injured reserve earlier this month due to a hamstring injury.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Harris overcame a major knee injury last season.

He chose the Dolphins over competing offers from the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings.

Harris has recorded 21 interceptions for his career, returning four for touchdowns.

He has deflected 142 passes.

The Dolphins wound up cutting cornerback Jason Allen when they signed Harris. He has since signed with the Houston Texans.

I don't know if there were other factors in his decision (e.g. team record) or this is purely coincidental, but I respect that he avoided going to a division foe.

Although I thougt he was losing a step for a little while, highlighted by Plaxico in the NFC Championship, I still respected him as a competitor, leader, and a Packer thus hate to see him hobble away from the game this way.

I think with another full off-season of recovery, he'll at least get another shot some where.

Shit I didn't know that you could be cut from the IR? I thought you had to be cut instead of going onto the IR. Sucks for Al. Spose he's done now.

I would love to see Harris signed in the offseason to have a retirement with the Packers. This is especially important after the messy divorce with Favre. Would be nice to retire a loved veteran with a long career with us. Harris was with us '03-10, right? That's a long time, especially nowadays.

That's what being cut from IR means. Player goes on IR and then reaches an injury settlement with the team and is released.

Too bad for Al, but at least this shows that the Packers were right to let him go.
