I'm not disagreeing with you, I think Starks showed the potential to be a substantial upgrade over Nance and Jackson. However, the team showed with this move and Al Harris that they value ST as much as your potential as a starter.

I am sick of hearing how important special teams are and we continue have Shawn Slocum as the coach. If it's so damn important, get a real coach. We hear year in year out, we kept this person for special teams. Where has it gotten us? Keep the SMARTEST FOOTBALL players and we'll be fine.

Improved running game > any contributions Nance provides on special teams.

I don't hate Nance, I liked his game against the Giants. I seen better hole hitting from Starks more consistently. Nance hesitates at times.

Starks is a significantly better rusher than Nance. Starks hits the hole like Grant and falls forward for an extra yard in almost every carry. Nance though does have cool hair, but that really doesn't help our team much.

I'd too rather take Starks' rushing ability over Nance's STs ability. Anyone have MM's phone #?

Well, sounds like they know Starks is their best runner, but they're investing in the future by holding him back. They're showing him they want him to develop his off field preparation habits. So I guess that's understandable. Once he does that, he'll see the field again.

With Korey Hall out, he has a better shot at playing next week. If he doesn't... well, he isn't doing the shit he has to do during the week.

As far as I'm concerned, a sixth-round draft choice once rated the second-best rushing prospect in the draft should be humiliated that he's being beaten out by an undrafted free agent.

Get your ass in gear, Starks.

To piggyback off of what Nonstop said, I meant to say before that I wonder if this is as much of a reflection of our ST woes as it is an indication that Starks is lazy. McCarthy's quotes pretty strongly suggested that he's not putting in the necessary pre-game preparation, so I wonder if this is a punishment as well.

You rush for 70 some yards vs. the 49ers in your debut, but Korey-frickin-Hall beats you out on the 45?!? Like you said NSD, you think that'd be a wake up call!

I missed this, where did the Packers say Starks is their best runner and future? All I hear is that the kid isn't good enough to get on the field.

Special Teams is bad enough as is, last thing we need to do is purposely make it worse.

With both of those comments, I would rather see BJack get the healthy scratch. Let Nance stay with the special teams and see what Starks can do.

Where's Starks?

Rookie running back James Starks performed well in his NFL debut on Dec. 5, rushing for a team-high 73 yards in 18 carries against San Francisco.

The next week, Starks gained just 8 yards in six carries against Detroit. He has been inactive the last two weeks.

What happened?

McCarthy hinted that Starks needed to improve his practice habits.

"He needs to compete to get on the (roster)," McCarthy said. "His situation has been exactly the same the last two weeks. James Starks and Dimitri Nance compete for that fifth spot as a running back and as a special teams player and Dimitri is just ahead of him right now."

"(Starks) needs to do a better job throughout the week in preparation and in practice. Until he gets that done, he wont be on the 45."

Well, we better put our best ST's guys out there Sunday because Hester's return was the difference the last time we played the Bears.

We cannot afford to play well on both O & D and not on St's and end up losing this game. The Bears live and die off of crap like breaking a big return. They rarely beat anybody badly but manage enough points to win.

If we bring anything like we did this last Sunday we should stomp the Bears and part of what will allow that is no big returns. If we make them go the field and manufacture drives our defense will stop them.

We played pitiful the first time and lost by three. The only wild card I see that gives them a chance is ST's. In every other phase we are the better team unless, of course, we make eighteen penalties.

That game still bugs me. We commit 18 penalties and lose by three. If Chicago gets called for that kind of number we would beat them by 40.
