Giants can lose and still get in if the beat the Redskins and the Buccaneers and Packers lose.


Edit, that's entirely correct. If Giants lose to us, they need the Saints to lose out and they need to beat the Redskins. If the Saints win a game, they need us to lose to the Bears to get in.

If we win next week we will be in though. Getting to play the Rams or Seahawks in the wild card would almost be as good as a bye so absolutely we should be cheering for the Saints to lose out.

In fact, if the Saints lose out they won't even be in the playoffs as Tampa would rank higher than them in the division on common games. You have to like the thought of the reigning NFL champions not even being in the playoffs.

Be careful, they said on Fox tonight there is one scenario that could happen that would eliminate The Packers even if they win next week.

It has to involve all 4 teams..Pack,Saints, Giants and Bucs finishing at 10-6.
The tiebreak would come down to strengths of schedule and point differential, and it was reported by (I don't know the name of the group) to Fox, although the chance of The Packers not making play-offs with win over Bears is slim, there is a scenario.

I'm not going to worry about it, Packer Domination today, then hopefully again next week, then let the chips fall where they might.

I'm not sure they were right. In that four way tie you eliminate the Saints because Tampa Bay has the better record in common games and then do the three way tie. It would go to strength of victory. Tampa Bay have not yet beat a team with a winning record so even with their victory over the Saints they would be no where near relevant in this tiebreaker. I also did a quick check of the records of the teams the Packers and Giants have beat and the teams we beat have won 70 games (assuming Philly beats Minnesota on Monday night, if it's the other way around we have 71) and the teams the Giants beat have only won 53 (54 if Minnesota wins). Going into the final week their teams need to make up 17 games. That can't happen. So unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible, we won't lose that tiebreaker.

edit: I should probably add that in my count for strength of victory I included the the Bears for the Packers and the Redskins twice for the Giants under the assumption they both win next week.
