Whoever suggested we might get a first-round pick for Flynn -- or better yet, multiple later-round picks -- thanks for making me laugh. There's no way a 7th-round pick's stock rises that far after one game.

When Green Bay Called it's last timeout Mike should have gave Flynn the plays he wanted ran for the rest of the game right there. Flynn should have went to the huddle and told the players the next series of plays right then and there. Mike McCarthy was at fault with the piss poor time management at the end of the game.

"all_about_da_packers" wrote:

You admit Flynn is inexperienced, and all of a sudden you want McCarthy to tell Flynn what plays are in order for the next 2-3 snaps?

That's a bit of an inconsistent thought process, no? Frankly you want Flynn to focus on the play called + on making adjustments, and not getting ahead of himself.

However, you should have a standard play you can call - teach it to all QBs to call - when you are around the redzone and need a TD inside 10 seconds.

Flynn had no chance once the ball was snapped because he had no idea of what routes the WRs would run. That's an inexcusable finish, and those are the details Mike McCarthy should have gone over during the practice week given this was Flynn's first start.

"gotarace" wrote:

I agree completely. But under a minute down by 4 it is a no brainer what plays you call inside the 20 yardline with no timeouts left. Mike dropped the ball. Hell call the same play every down with a rookie, you can't screw that up.

LMFAO you're the 2nd biggest dumbass of the night (behind packer98).

Mike McCarthy had a GREAT game. Team really showed up to play. We just lost because of Flynn's inexperience.

"go.pack.go." wrote:

We lost because go.pack.go's brother had no fourth down play called for Flynn to get to the line with as well as pitiful time management skills at the end of the game.

Keep blaming Mike McCarthy for the loss. He's the only reason we were even IN the game.

You should change your name to "Viking98."

"packer98" wrote:

Really? I speak the truth.

The players had every excuse to give up on the season whether it be injuries or losing to the Lions. Yet they kept fighting and they very nearly beat the best team in the NFL.

Who do you think was the head of all that? Yes, Mike McCarthy.

"go.pack.go." wrote:

McCarthy was not the ONLY FUCKING REASON the Packers had a chance vs the Patriots. Give some credit to the players they did a good job.

McCarthy is coaching a team FULL of very good players and is underperforming. Criticism is legit. He's been given one of the more talented teams in the NFC if not the entire league and they are dramatically underperforming. You cannot just say everything good that happens is because of McCarthy and everything bad that happens, well it just isn't his fault.

The funny thing is a lot of people are blaming injuries but the Defense has been destroyed by injuries and is still probably the best in the league while the offense has had only a couple bad ones but has taken a complete nose dive.

What did Matt Hasselback ever do to warrant a 1st round pick from Seattle? That kid just went out there and outplayed Pretty Boy Brady. And there are teams that'll give there left nut for a quarterback. I don't think a second rounder is out of the question.

His stock is much higher now. Well, not to the extent that GB would get a first rounder, but if the Packers call Seattle and say lets make a Matt Hasselbeck type of trade, they will consider it. I recall GB moved up 20 spots in the draft and gave up Hasselbeck. My guess is they could move 10 spots with the right team. It has to be a right fit though. Flynn has potential. You really saw it tonight and we've seen it in preseason as well. He has shown growth.

They would have been lucky to get a 6th for him prior to his game. After watching Detroit, they wouldnt have gotten anything.

EDIT

I should clarify that the fit is everything. For example, if Tom Clements goes off and becomes a head coach or offensive coordinator, he could be interested in pursuing something like I suggested above.

But you say we are the most talented team. Yeah, we were before the injuries. And yes I can use that as an excuse here.

The defense has played good, but when you lose you're biggest threat on offense in Finley and your starting RB, then those injuries are HUGE.

The saddest part is I realize this coach will be kept around, and this
team will stay mediocre, and Rodgers and Jennings talents will have
been wasted.

So whose fault is it that Slocum is retained after multiple years of horrible (worst in the league type) special teams performance?

"Stevetarded" wrote:

Last year, Slocum's first year, was terrible. This year has hardly, if at all, been better.

However, you have to realize the amount of injuries Slocum has had to overcome as coach. Outside of the long snapper, kicker, and punter the only two ST players he's consistently had at his disposal are Jarret Bush and Tom Crabtree.

That is an insane amount of turnover for any coach to deal with. Add to it that you have players like Quinn Johnson deciding to become an idiot by completely lowering his head while blindly trying to make a tackle, thereby missing the player altogether AND taking out a couple of his teammates from making a play on the O-linemen who ran the kick back... and well you can only do so much when you find yourself in such a situation.

I'm willing to give Slocum one more year to judge his true value... you can be mad at him and say he is a shit coach, but frankly the amount of turnover he has had to deal with on his units should not be ignored all together.

That's the smartest thing you've written tonight, in fact add to it. Our fate was sealed with those two injuries, but we have to play out the games. Your right, THEY NEVER WORK!!! That's why almost every team will use the squib kick at the end of a half, or end of a game so The receivers will not bust a long return.

The play was a fluke, it was the right call, just a once in a lifetime result.

I'll say it again, a victory tonight would have been great, but Packers are no worse off than they were before this weekend started, and oh by the way if The Vikings win tomorrow night, they are actually in a better position.
