MARK IT DOWN. With Flynn or Rodgers, we will WIN this game. Not only will they be ready to play, but the full week of practice should help Flynn look a little better. Certainly won't hurt.
I bet they get the running game going too.

Okay.. so then according to you it was a three week window.. so now you want to trot him out in a must win game for both teams verse the pass rush of the Giants and give us no wiggle room?

Look.. I don't want to play Rodgers unless he is healthy and ready to go.

But I don't buy into the fact that if he is ready to play that we should sit him and everyone else because this game doesn't matter.. because it does.

Actually there is a very real scenario with the upcoming games that the Packers could still secure the #2 spot with the right chain of events.

But actually.. unless we find a way to run the ball and help this offensive line/ QB's out.. I think it matters little overall.

I think we come out and play a very physical game and leave nothing on the table.. because every game still counts and none are meaningless.

Sure we could still make the playoffs in the right scenario.. (BTW if the Bucs win both other games and lose to the Saints, with a Packers loss in this game.. we are out) but we don't have the luxury to say this game isn't important to our chances.. because it will eliminate other avenues that we make the show.

That is my only point.. not to risk anyone's long term health. If Rodgers can't go, you aren't going to hear me say one bad word about it.

They won't play him if he's not ready regardless of the situation. McCarthy always weighs on the side of caution when it comes to injuries.

On the other hand if Rodgers is ready he will play the game. I don't see them holding anybody out if their status allows them to go. I understand the reasoning behind doing it but it won't happen.

Don't get me wrong, Shawn. If Rodgers is ready to go, I will be excited to see him play. If he's not ready to play and he lays an egg -- or worse, aggravates his injury, I will question the judgment of our coaching staff. I would see benching Rodgers as a case of strategic withdrawal prior to a renewed charge.

It is not up to the coaching staff.. this years rule change takes it out of their hands and into an independent medical physicians hands to give him the okay.

So he has to pass the baseline test (comparative baseline from the beginning of the year), cleared by the Packers medical staff and then an independent doctors as well..

The very essence of the rule is to keep it out of the teams and probably more importantly the players hands.. and puts it in the hands of two different medical professionals and one that has no ties to the team.

And his, the independent doctor, career is on the line in that case.

With that.. I have much confidence that if they clear him he is ready to play in this all important game for the Packers postseason chances.

Yes it sucks that the remaining three are ultra important.. but we have no one but ourselves to blame for that via our play, especially last week.

That's fair enough excepting the fact that I was there Sunday night when you and Kevin were both rooting for the Eagles to beat the Cowboys.

Strategic withdrawal.

Eagles over the Cowboys when we are in fight for a playoff berth and the Eagles are tied with us in the w-l record (going into the weekend) ...and the Cowboys are out of it.

You are SO disqualified. 😛

This is just getting harder and harder to convince myself that we will make the playoffs this year. I can take comfort in the thought that next year we will be starting a new season, and I can presume that everybody will be back, starters and non-starters (who played as starters this year, which made them MUCH better) included. The one thing that I cannot take comfort in however is beating good teams but losing to bad teams. I was upset when we lost to the Falcons because we were so close, we almost beat them on their turf, which is apparently impossible to do. I can't handle that we lost to the Lions. This happens every fucking year. This year it was the Lions. Last year it was the Bucs. 2008 it was the Bucs again, 2007 we had the best team in football (except for perhaps the *perfect Patriots) and we lose both home and away to the Bears who went 7-9 on the season. 2006 it was the Rams and the Bills, and we had essentially the same team that we went 13-3 with the following year.
We always look past the shitty teams at the WORST time and they make us look stupid for it, and potentially knock us out of the playoffs. If we'd have pulled our heads out of our asses last week and won, we could have watched the Bears get their asses handed to them on Sunday night with our feet up and a beer in our hands, instead we're watching the game thinking of what could have been while slamming Karkov.
Oversights are the worst thing that can happen in football, and they happen to us every year.

Has a large effect on the outcome of this prediction

McCarthy says Rodgers won't practice all week
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel

Dec. 15, 2010 1:25 p.m. |(5) Comments

Green Bay -- Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that it's very doubtful quarterback Aaron Rodgers will practice this week and that a decisioin on his status won't be made until Saturday.

McCarthy said that Dr. John Gray said it was out of the question for Rodgers to practice on Wednesday and Thursday and that his chances for Friday are "slim to none." He said he would not let the importance of the game affect his decision on whether to play Rodgers.

Backup Matt Flynn will get all of the practice reps in team drills this week and will go through an intense week of preparation so that he is fully prepared to play. Practice squad quarterback Graham Harrell may be signed to the 53-man roster, but a decision would not be made until Saturday.

In addition to not being able to practice, Rodgers will not be allowed to attend meetings or go through film study until cleared by the doctor. He did neither on Wednesday.

McCarthy said he had not talked to Rodgers Wednesday, but spoke with him extensively earlier this week.

It seems like a long shot that Rodgers will play given the timeline laid out for him. He would have no practice, little preparation and a lot of tests to pass before being cleared.

If he's cleared, it's possible that McCarthy could make Rodgers the backup and let Flynn start. But that's just speculation. Right now, it doesn't look good for Rodgers playing this week.

Dave, you must have been blitzed out of your mind. Why weren't you handing around whatever it was you were smoking? :P

I was rooting for the Cowboys to win the entire night. How could you have missed me cheering for Jon Kitna? I've been a fan of his for years. I said repeatedly that I wished we had him on our roster. I was pissed off that the Cowboys lost!

If Aaron Rodgers doesn't play we have two major possibilities with Matt Flynn IMO. This is assuming that the line plays halfway decent(which is a big if):

1. The Patriots haven't seen enough of him to make a good game plan. We see this occasionally with QBs making their first start. They haven't played long enough in the NFL so opposing teams don't know their tendencies. This happened to us when the Bucs first played Josh Feeman, and our only tape on him was from College.

2. The Pats challenge Matt Flynn by loading up the box and forcing him to throw down field. He isn't up to the task, and we lose big.

I would have to guess number 2 sadly. But, there is one thing that really plays into our favor and that is that Matt Flynn has been out of college and in our system for several years. He is likely a much different player now than he was at LSU. As a result the only real good film the Pats have of him is last week.
