The problem is, the team shouldn't have needed a wakeup call. There was absolutely everything to play for and we flat out stunk up the joint. This team should have been foaming at the mouth and ready to go out and beat a divisional foe and take control of their playoff destiny and, other than the defense, they all seemed like they'd rather have stayed home. Good teams don't need "wakeup calls" like this.

Can anyone envision this happening to the Steelers or Patriots or Falcons?

Yes.. but I remember a 1997 embarrassment of a loss for the Packers on their way to a 13-3 record and a return trip to the Superbowl.

They happen. Any Given Sunday.

This one just came at an awful time..

IIRC, that 1997 loss did not come when the team "needed" a win to ensure itself of a playoff spot. It might have jeopardized the #1 seed, but we pretty much had the division locked up at that point. Yesterday could, very likely, cost us, not only a home playoff game and potential #2 seed, but a playoff spot at all.

Big difference if you ask me.

Agreed it is different.. and agreed the team shouldn't need a wake up call.

But watching over the course of this season.. and the talk that it doesn't matter that we don't run the freaking ball.. that the team, the coaching staff and some of the players needed a refresher that you have to bring it in all facets every Sunday to consistently win the close games.

There is a reason we are 2 and what 15 in games decided by less than a touchdown in the past couple of years.

And Rodgers isn't the reason.

But screw it.. lets just pack it up for the season and quit with three games left and a decent shot at the playoffs because our wake up call came in a crappy time in the schedule.

Just not I.. because I happen to believe if the coaching staff challenges those men on the front line.. from tackle to tackle that they can't get it done and focus on establishing the run.. that they can. I know they can.. I have seen them do it just a little over a week ago..

But remember.. the key quote from the coaching staff is they focused on the running game and the basics... well no shit you aren't going to be good at something if you don't work at it and focus your efforts.

Our line is plenty big enough.. plenty strong enough.. they are NFL caliber players.. they can do it physically in my opinion..

Wake up or go home.

The key is to get in the playoffs. Remember, Tampa Bay beat New Orleans in New Orleans last year. So I wouldn't say the season is over or this is anymore of a one and done team today than it was yesterday.

However, this loss has made things ridiculously hard for the Packers. They must have the Bears lose to the Vikings. If they don't, it's over unless GB wins out, which I don't think they will.

I hope you are right, pack, but as TO said, it seems too late in the season for a wake-up call. A loss this late, when they needed a win so badly, suggests that they just didn't have the horses to get it done yesterday. That doesn't bode well for the three upcoming games against playoff-caliber opponents. I think they can win two of them, but I don't think 10-6 will get it done this year.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
