that run may have cost Rodgers much more than a playoff loss. Its his second concussion this season. A third may cause his retirement.

I wonder if Greg C. still finds it "touching" when people express respect for the team the Lions organization has fielded this year.

What I meant by that was that I think the praise for the Lions this year has been way over the top considering how little they have accomplished on the field. I saw the same thing when Rod Marinelli was the coach. I think in both cases the praise has been based more on sympathy than football analysis. I give the Lions a lot of credit for yesterday's win. They finally have a win now that they can hang their hat on and maybe use to build on moving forward. The wins over the Rams and Redskins earlier this year were not those kind of wins.

Also, I think that the Lions' improvement is due mostly to the addition of blue chip players in the draft because of their consistently awful win-loss records. What I've been waiting for is to see some lower drafted players and free agents to start contributing. I saw that yesterday with their defensive line, and their patchwork secondary was able to hold it together well enough, although the poor performance of the Packers' backup QB had a lot to do with that. But another plus for the Lions was that their offense got a TD in the fourth quarter when they needed one, against a good defense. So this game was definitely a step in the right direction for them.

Greg, I agree with you. I've said several times that Rodgers is not a running quarterback in the traditional sense, which is one of the many reasons why I like him. My concern stems from the fact that it seems to be becoming increasingly necessary for Rodgers to make play on his feet to keep drives alive. It's gone beyond being a pleasant bonus to becoming almost an integral part of the offense. That, I believe, does not bode well for the future.

How embarassing to be beaten by the 3rd string QB of the losingest team over the last decade.

So you can remove one 'horrible' from a post when it fits your argument? ;)

Seriously.. where the difference is drawn is that the Lions turned the corner in the front office with the removal of Millen, accumulating talent and depth that actually can play on Sundays.

I agree with have more work to do yet.. but overcoming years of mismanagement and poor personnel decisions from Millen, squandering some of those Blue Chip picks.

They have been competitive and played teams like the Patriots well into the second half.. yesterday Cunningham schemed a defense utilizing speed and inside power (Suh and Corey Williams) to take advantage of our weakness.. and beat us down with it.

I hope for their own good, the Lions give this coaching staff another season to let some of their work there mature.. well not from our perspective, because IMO that team is coming on.

Oh, they will. Schwartz has his shit together. I think most Lions fans know that, lord knows, they know what "bad" looks like, and he isn't it.

They are going to be a pain in the ass in the North for a long time to come, and will get more firepower this draft too.
