Macbob - You're new here. I'm actually an amateur writer and one of my writing tools I use is exaggeration for effect. Like when I said "screw the run," I'm fully aware we still need to run the ball against teams like the Giants and even someone like the Pats who are the NFL's worst at defending the pass, we still need to run 20% of the time.

Or when you say that Starks will get ~500 yards and 8 TD's a game? Oh wait, that was serious wasn't it? Ummmmmmmmm.......This is awkward....

Ryan Grant 6-1, 215 40 Time: 4.56
James Starks 6-2, 218 40 Time: 4.50

Very interesting. Didn't he look smaller than Grant? I'm not complaining. When a guy looks smaller than he really is, that often means that he is a very good athlete. That's my own theory, so take it for what it's worth.

"Scouts did not credit Grant with exceptional speed, but he was clocked at 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the Combine"

Seriously I don't trust the 40 numbers as the NFL Network has caught it before being wrong. They can line two guys where they can start at the same time and you can watch them both at the same time. And they're done it before where they start at the same time but the guy with the slower time finishes first.

Starks does look smaller as he's build like a WR (also runs good routes and has good hands or at least did in college) but he's got a very thin waist it seems which makes him look smaller, but he's upper body seem to be build...

I think in a race if they were both 100% Grant would out run Starks but Starks seemed like he was willing to be more physical... not a lot more physical but more.

I've never been too concerned with 40-yard dash times. They are somewhat helpful for players who have not yet played in the NFL, but once they start playing, you get a much better feel for how much football speed they have, and you can pretty much throw out their 40 times. I am hoping that Starks has breakaway speed at least to the extent that Grant does, which is not overwhelming but Grant can take it to the house every once in awhile.

Regarding my comment about the relationship between actual size and how big a player looks on the field, my theory is that, in general, smaller people tend to be more coordinated because it is easier for a brain to coordinate a smaller body, so if a large player looks smaller than he is it probably means that he is exceptionally coordinated for his size. Sometimes you can see it in the way they carry themselves. An example that comes to mind is Mario Williams, DE for the Texans. When I first saw him play, he looked like about a 270 pounder, like Javon Kearse maybe, but he weighs 295. He has an amazing combination of size and coordination.

I think more important than 40 yd dash time is their time to full speed. Adrian Peterson takes negative time to reach full speed.

This is about James Starks debut, however when thinking about 40 yard time I recall Jerry Rice's poor time and how well he did. The times are meaningless, although I still like to know them for grins.

No way Grant beats Starks in a footrace. Especially if cutting or ability to see holes develop is involved.

LOL.. one game of footage for Starks and two plus seasons of 1200 yards pace for Grant and now the guy is a bum and won't have a roster spot next season.

Want proof of how valuable Grant was to Green Bay?

Look at this seasons running game.

Spare the 73 yards that HOFer Starks churned out last Sunday. 😉

Once Grant gets into the open field, it's over. We've seen this a few times. I don't really care about his 40 time but his football speed is super fast.

Jackson and Kuhn get caught. Grant doesn't. I just don't get the Grant hate.

Starks hasn't been in the open field yet, has he? I think of his 18 carries, he's always had a S in front of him.

I'm guessing nerdmann's hate is about Notre Dame, not Grant. Did your admission application get rejected or something?
