One could argue that much of both backs success was due to the men lined up in front of them.. so I will break the debate.. they both were overrated.

Case closed.

Wow 93, come on now, they both were pretty damn good.

As I remember(since I am such an old geezer that my memory is fading),
Horning was the pretty boy, party animal, that had more talent than he even realized.
Taylor was the tough as nails, run through and over anyone who got in his way.
Both were great in their own way and yes 93, you are right, they had plenty of help from the very talented guys up front.

It was more tongue and cheek.. I think both brought talent to the Packers.. but the boys up front made that team roll.

Ahman Green was our best running back. He had a very unique combination of speed and power. I think he gets dismissed by Packer fans because he smacked around his girlfriends/wives too much. But on the field that guy could score from anywhere.

lol. Jim Brown.

Only once in his 9 years in the league did he NOT lead the league in rushing...and that one year was led by Jim Taylor...

This thread is like asking us to decide between beer or wine--hey, I like them both, but prefer beer in some circumstances and wine at other times. One set Packers/NFL scoring records and the other set yardage records. They complemented each other, and would not have been as good without the other (or that tremendous line, as Packz points out).

So, I'm not willing to say straight up that one was better than the other.

I was really enjoying this thread until Dakota started talking about his daddy's sack...

And Taylor > Hornung.

OK. I wasn't even born yet. However, Taylor may be the better RB. Hornung was the better player. Let's not forget that Hornung had the record for 176 points that lasted for what seemed like forever and was only broken because of 16 game seasons. It's still the #2 most points in a season.

He was a decent Kicker for his time, led the NFL is rushing TDs in 1960, two time All-Pro, two time Pro-Bowler. Plus, he partied like a rock star. Got to give him props for that.
