Just watched the movie "Field of Dreams". At the end of the movie Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) asks his Dad, "Hey... Dad? You wanna have a catch?"

I always called it "playing catch" not "have a catch". I assumed it was an error in the movie until I saw the writers doing an interview and they repeatedly called it "having a catch".

I just wondered what others call it. I assume that since the writer is from Long Island, NY he doesn't know what they call it in Iowa.

It was always "playing catch" for me growing up. "Have a catch" sounds vaguely . . . sexual.

Not to me. To me, "have a catch" sounds like some snooty rich kid that would probably grab his glove, go out in the yard, and watch the butler and maid toss the ball back and forth.

It's worse than that, Cheesey.

If you ever hear someone ask you to "have a catch" with a ball and glove, I can pretty much guarantee he is some fruity fella from Europe that actually believes soccer is worth more than a complete reflection on the flaminality of their whole society...

I would consider a nice punch in the mouth an act of patriotism...

"Have a catch that, bitch."
