More's the pity. Maybe if they wore leather helmets, we'd see some more real tackling. ;)

The idea of "leather helmets" and "playing San Francisco" just conjures up the wrong sort of image to me.

Sorry, zombieslayer...speaking not of you, but of your city's, er, reputation.

Not a fan of these uniforms.

They are not the Blue Bay Packers. Otherwise they would be in New South Wales, Australia. Of course this time of year that would not be a bad option.

I don't deny they use to wear this type of a jersey. Still don't care for them. They have been in the color green for decades. I liked the other throw back jerseys they wore. I like the throw back jerseys I have seen other teams wear. I like going back and remembering past traditions. Maybe if it didn't have the yellow bulls-eye on the front I would like it better.

More likely it is because they are changing their primary color. I didn't like it when St Louis Cardinals went to a blue jersey in the 80's. They belong in white or red. Blue belongs to the Cubs and Brewers and the other teams that have used it for years.

You raise an excellent point. Most of the time (the Bucs probably being the notable exception with their hideous creamsicle uniforms), when teams go to their throwback uniforms, they're not changing the hallmark color that's represented them for so long. Sometimes the shade is a tad different, but the archetypical color that makes them recognizable is still there. These Packers throwbacks are a fundamental departure from the color scheme that has been the Packers' trademark for 60 years.

Off topic, I find it fascinating that the NFL went to modern plastic helmets back in 1950 -- over 60 years ago. Yet it wasn't until 1970, in the wake of the NFL/AFL merger, that the league mandated that all teams would put names on their jerseys.

Here is a picture of probably my favorite Packers throwback. Imagine how much he would have been fine for doing this in the modern-day NFL!

You've also got Denver with that awful brown and yellow jersey, the Eagles with a yellow and light blue throwback, and the Jets with a blue and gold Titans throwback. Otherwise, most of them are the same. Even the Titans going back to the Oilers is pretty much the same color scheme.

Speaking of throwbacks, get a load of the formation at 0:31:

That's the old single wing/Notre Dame Box formation, in which the quarterback is a designated blocking back. I love how the backs move in a synchronized fashion as they line up in the backfield; it looks almost like dancing. And there's none of this long-count bullshit that ends up causing our own guys to false start. It's simply line up, "Hut!" and they're off.

By the way, am I the only one who caught the announcer's comment that the Packers are "piling it on in the first period" . . . in a game whose final score was 14-7? It's mind boggling to contemplate how low scoring the average game of that era must have been.
