Peyton Manning, Mike Vick lead the way in Pro Bowl voting

By Mike Florio

The polls remain open at NFL.com, and fans can continue to cast Pro Bowl votes for the next four weeks.

For now, the top two vote-getters are Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Eagles quarterback Mike Vick.

You can cast your own ballot, early and often and as many times you want, at NFL.com.

Manning has 496,658 votes, and Vick has 405,292.

The rest of the top 10 are: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (400,921), Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (368,469), Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (343,177), Saints quarterback Drew Brees (296,552), Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers (291,071), Titans running back Chris Johnson (266,835), Texans running back Arian Foster (263,359), and Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (252,219).

For the AFC, the leaders by position are Manning at quarterback, Johnson at running back, Ravens fullback LeRon McClain, Texans receiver Andre Johnson, Gates at tight end, Ravens tackle Michael Oher, Browns guard Eric Steinbach, Colts center Jeff Saturday, Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney, Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison, Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis, Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu, Ravens free safety Ed Reed, Raiders punter Shane Lechler, Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski, Browns kick returner Josh Cribbs, and Steelers special-teamer Keyaron Fox.

In the NFC, the leaders by position are Vick at quarterback, Peterson at running back, Saints fullback Heath Evans, Falcons receiver Roddy White, Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez, Giants tackle David Diehl, Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson, Giants center Shaun OHara, Bears defensive end Julius Peppers, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews, 49ers inside linebacker Patrick Willis, Packers cornerback Charles Woodson, Redskins strong safety LaRon Landry, Giants free safety Antrel Rolle, Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, Eagles kicker David Akers, Bears kick returner Devin Hester, and Vikings special-teamer Heath Farwell.

I have repeatedly stated why it is bad for our team to have players in the pro-bowl, so I'm not going there.

Vick is by far the most deserving player I can think of in recent memory for this recognition.

The man has single-handedly made that shit-box offensive line not only less relevant as a game factor, I believe they have actually improved as a result of his play--- He "freezes" D-linemen and D-backs- The whole dynamic in the trenches is altered.

We Packer fans saw it first-hand that first game. We kind of minimized it, instead went with the theory that "if we had game planned for Vick instead of Kolb..."

Bull

A vote for Vick is a good vote. Plus it makes it pricey for the poor FO that signs him, as if that wasn't already the case. Remember, the Vikings may be involved in THAT, so a vote for Vick just helps in the category of making your opponent more miserable come signing time. If that is the Iggles, so be it, make 'em pay through the nose for him.

I doubt it would escalate QB salaries in general, so it is also a safe vote in that department, and of course there is the strong possibility that the franchise tag will survive the new CBA, if there is one...which will probably wind up making Philly even MORE miserable, after Manning gets his ridiculous deal and all.. :thumbleft:

You suppose that this might be part of the reason the GB offensive line looks better than some of us thought it would be this year?

Vick's running/speed is in a league of its own QB-wise, but there have been a couple times this year I've wondered that if Vick hadn't been having a career year, whether we'd be seeing a lot more about Aaron Rodgers and *his* escapability.

Maybe he doesn't "freeze" defensive players the way Vick does, but they sure as heck have to account for his running, do they not? And that little bit of hesitation, etc, may be just the bit that Clifton, Colledge, and company need.

Just a thought.

One thing I see on the list alot of popular votes.
1) Charles Woodson? I think Tramon is playing better ball than Chuck

2) Foster should start ahead of C Johnson

3) Andre Johnson is 4th in the AFC in both yards and catches

4) Ravens free safety Ed Reed he has missed alot and if I'm correct just came off the PUP list a few weeks ago

So as you can see the pro bowl is just a popularity contest
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be šŸ™‚ (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Woodson has had a drop in production, but he was they DPotY last year. You really can't expect him to have another season like that.

Tramon is the better coverage corner, but is he the better player? Woodson didn't get his award because of his coverage skills, alone, last year. He's a ballhawk, a blitzer, a sure tackler, forces more fumbles than most, a leader...

Williams has been better in coverage, but Woodson's still the gamechanger.

1) True

2) Opposing teams don't stack the box against Houston as they do against Tennessee. Chris Johnson is the best running back in the NFL.

3) If you are the guy that every team's defensive gameplan revolves around, being 4th is yards and catches is not bad at all.

4) Ed Reed is definitely votable, and INT per game, and he's only 2 picks away from leading the AFC in INTs. I vote for Michael Griffin, but I can see why people would vote for Ed.

The fan voting is mostly just from hype and what kind of players you know (Polamalu hasn't been very good this year either). Luckily the teams aren't decided solely by fan voting.

I think there is some of that. It's a "fine-line" (no pun intended) between good and sucky, especially on our offensive line. Aaron has grown SO MUCH in "awareness" as one factor also...

For me, the whole "house of cards" regarding our o-line rests on some very scary/suspect knees owned by one Chad Clifton. On that note, I think I'm getting a 30 pack instead of a 24 pack for today's game. :tongue3:
