I appreciate the comments, although, I must admit, it does make me a little uncomfortable. I don't know how to put it in words, but I think it's pretty neat what you've all developed here. I've been on discussion boards since '97 and (not to be bias) I've never witnessed anything like this place. Typically, when someone is super pissed off they lash out and don't ever let go for a very long time resulting in banishment. Here, not to be corny, but it feels more like when you're brother punches you in the face, you get pissed off, but you either get even, or get over it instead holding on to lingering negative feelings.

I spent a lot of time analyzing peoples reactions to certain things, in life and on here. It's unique.

If you feel this place is great, look in the mirror, it has nothing to do with me. Maybe I have some credit for keeping the site available? I don't know, but its hard to accept credit for something that I thoroughly enjoy, even though there's times it is hard because the work behind the scenes is unnoticed and maybe I feel its taken for granted? That's my fault, not anyone else's though.

Guess, what I'm saying is, thank you ALL for making PackersHome, what it is. You deserve the credit.

It's amazing that Kevin has been able to create a place where annoying and confrotational guys are at a minimum.

Yeah, can't think of anyone like that here...oh, wait. :sad1:

In all seriousness though, the thing about this place which has impressed me since the "divorce" is that this site and its members (aside from Dhazer, but every village needs its idiot, amirite?) are Packer fans, and not Favre apologists. It's incredible to me how many Wisconsinites cashed in their chips for a purple jersey and threw Ted Thompson and MM under the bus. Blows my mind.

I know I'm not exactly the ideal "Packer fan", but a "Packer fan" I'll always be. Thanks to Kevin, and everybody here, for giving this Wisconsin expatriate a place to talk about my favorite team.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

The rest of us are very fortunate that we can just come and go as we please, post a comment, piss and moan or what have you, then just take off. All of this is at no cost to us, and we don't have to do anything to do with site maintenance, eliminating trolls, deleting duplicate threads, etc.

You deserve a lot of credit, and although we don't often give you the praise you deserve, the lack of complaints, and how frequently we visit this site are basically our demonstrations of gratitude to you. This truly is a great site for level-headed, constructive discussions about packers' topics, and many other matters. I check this site almost daily, sometimes up to 10 times/day thanks to all the work you put in, and how much everyone else brings to this site.

On a side note, and I don't mean to bring up bad blood, but can you explain what happened with the old site? I used to be on that, left for a year or so, discovered it was a ghost town and stumbled into this recognizing many of the old posters, not knowing what transpired. Do you mind giving me the Clif Notes version of what happened?

What happened with PF?
Ryan out of the blue contacted me about building a Packers site, or enhancing this one to great new levels. I didn't quite understand it, until the next day when PackOne informed me "Congrats dude, big day for ya", or something to that effect. Apparently Ryan had made arrangements to sell the site a few weeks prior, but the new owners jumped the gun and took over before expected.

Ryan was very good at keeping his members informed of such changes. He was extremely bothered by the fact they jumped the gun and he didn't get a chance to advise the members of the pending sale and ownership change.

tromadz and PackOne were pissed off about the changes, rightfully so, and went on an effort to inform members to come to this site. Ryan also helped to with a site wide email.

PH gained something like 120 members from PF, pretty much all the good ones stopped going to PF and came here. Primarily because this format was very similar to PF's. We both used the same software.

When the PF site changeover took place, I posted several times to give it a chance-I didn't want PH to blow up with members, I liked the low profile it had and wanted to maintain that. PF admin's ended up being banned on two or three occasions for reasons not explained. Their stole some graphics from PH, denied it at first, then admitted to it and made efforts to tweak the graphics into their own. I say PF is garbage because the ownership cares not about the members, but the bottom line his site nets every month. I find that despicable.

Obviously, I'm bias in this thinking, lol ... but I feel how "I" operate here is how a fan site should be managed. I've never accepted anyone's attempt to donate, never accepted the many (and I mean freaking many) advertisement for cash offers and I never will. I've had family and friends urge me to profit from this site, I don't feel that's right. I'm a fan of the Packers and the only payment I require from the members is steady, honest opinions and to trust my decisions with the direction of the site. And I hope that's not asking too much.

I've only remotely considered one advertisement because I thought it would help members here, but would have declined to accept the cash for clicks proposal. Ultimately I decided against it.

And here's the kicker: By pure coincidence the Packers Forum got taken over by those creeps on the day that Brett Favre announced his unretirement and tried to return to the Packers! That was in July 2008. So there was this huge thing we needed to discuss and the site went all haywire, with no explanation for what was going on.

Most of the posters disappeared from PF, and I had no idea where they had gone because I don't know jack about computers or the Internet and couldn't figure it out by myself. The new owners of PF were subverting any attempts to let us know where everyone was going. PackOne was eventually successful in luring me and a bunch of others over here by writing backwards messages or something. I'm serious. He had to do it because the PF site had been programmed to immediately eliminate any references to this site.

wow...nuts. As I said, i was a loyal PF poster, went MIA due to a career change, then came back wondering what the hell had happened. I had no idea Ryan sold the site or anything like that...I was under the impression that it was like yours - a not-for-profit site.

Either way, thanks again for putting in the work for a great page, the only site I go to for packers info aside from packers.com

And to keep this packers related, um...John Jurkovic was OK, T-Buck sucked, and I like LeRoy Butler šŸ™‚

Ryan had a similar mindset as me, but he sought out a few advertisers NFL related to just make a few bucks. He also hosted it from his home so he had more overhead than I do. I pay for the name, and hosting server, that's pretty much it. He had to pay for his internet connection and whatever else needed. I don't know exactly how it came about to sell the site, but from what I got, he put it up just to see what he could net and one of the offers was something he couldn't refuse.

When I first found PF, I went around crazy posting links to it, making graphics and using them as my signature, posting articles like you wouldn't believe, etc ... anything to get it more popular because the alternative was PackersNews.com and they had the worst software for a forum ever. Ryan started out in phpBB which I knew well and liked a lot. So, that was my selfish reason for putting in all the effort into helping him get the name out there to get people to come and to get people to stay, lol.

Ryan never once gave me the impression he had the site for a financial gain either. We would discuss how to make the experience better for the members, not for his bottom line.

Happy Thanksgiving to all from sunny San Diego, I remember joining this site not knowing what to expect and seeing if I chose the "right" Packer fan website and every day (especially Sundays) I notice that I made the right choice, thanks to Zero and all for everything that is done here including the introspective posts and everything!

I agree with every statement above.

Plus... A special "Thank You" to all service men and women over seas, at at home.

God Bless.

Two thoughts.

1) In this Thanksgiving season, I am most happy with the service this site provides. As an out of area fan, it is invaluable. We have seen the fans from every continent here (well I haven't seen Antarctica) connecting with fans world wide. Thank you all for your contributions. Thank you for a wonderful site

2) Regarding Raider Pride's message above. In all my years in the Navy I only had one Thanksgiving off duty.
