Because American Indians deride the holiday as a celebration of white hegemony over the indigenous peoples.

Pastor at our church was hitting us with some trivia a couple of Sundays ago. I had to go for All Saints Day, my son and all...

Our church was originally formed in 1784. The impetus behind it's forming was the death of a young lady, and she is buried in our cemetery.

She was scalped by one of those indigenous folk. :tongue3:

On that note, allow me to throw up some of my Christmas decorations from last year:

+1 to Sir Foster for making me laugh, as usual. I'd love to see pictures of your historical church.

We don't throw any big bash for Christmas. Just celebrate it between us.
It's become too commercialized, causing it to lose it's meaning.

I was raised in a home that we were not allowed to celebrate Christmas. So my last one when i was a kid was when i was 3 years old.
My wife had to work hard for me to not hate the holiday. I was teased, and bullied at school, so i never looked forward to the holiday. Same with birthdays.
I think the way you feel about holidays is built when you are a little kid. And it's VERY hard to break out of it.

Christmas isn't a holiday any more.. it is an economic indicator and a money movement.

As much as we hate it.. the stores only feed the machine that is Christmas earlier and earlier to help their business.

Much like football is becoming less of a game and almost a pure business.

When the Packers make a move like cutting a franchise player like Harris and it is celebrated as a smart business move.. then how can we complain when strapped businesses in a rough economy rape the holiday further to improve their bottom line.

It is only smart business.

No Christmas gripe here. Love the fellowship with friends and family. Love making peoples faces light up with gifts. Love getting gifts. Love the food (honey ham > turkey every day of the week). And most importantly, love celebrating the birth of Jesus.

wow - you guys really are a bunch of grinchy butts. i was saying in shout that this is actually the first time since losing my dad that i can actually feel the Christmas spirit. it's been 5 years!

the boys are 8 now & i know this is probably the last year they'll believe in santa claus so i'm cherishing it. Christmas to me means family, happy times, & celebrating Jesus birth. i really don't care if it's not the correct date of His birth, what the stores are doing, or what's playing on the radio. it's supposed to be enjoyable.

you know I dont know if its me but I remember the day I found out santa clause wasnt real (ya I know) ... I felt VERY betrayed by the world and my parents for making up this dumb thing.

I guess I had issues before that (when I was younger) about something that was told to me but was not true
