Ted Thompson WILL NOT offer A.J. Hawk a contract.

He will let him go to FA's hoping A.J. will not get offered a lucrative contract.

When Hawk gets that offer, Ted will explain that it just wasn't in the budget to match the offer.

Ted will be Ted, he will sign the bench guys hoping as he always does they wll somehow step up and play at a pro-bowl level.

Enjoy this Lb'r crew for the rest of the year, IMHO Barnett and Hawk will both be gone next year.

Hawk has one of those contracts that reaches a ridiculous amount next year, so he will have to be cut. Perhaps Ted will try to re-sign him, but I agree with you that if Hawk hits the open market he will likely go elsewhere. I think Barnett has a reasonable contract, though, so if Hawk leaves, I would expect Barnett to stay, especially considering that his injury (to his wrist) is not the kind that is likely to affect his play once it heals--unlike, say, a leg or back injury.

I have no problem with Ted's methods. The Steelers have had a lot of success in recent years with a similar approach.

I agree that the last combo (Bishop-Hawk-Chillar) is the best. I kinda doubt that Hawk will be back next year though. Hope I'm wrong.

I still can't get over the ol' "Uncle Teddy is such a cheapskate" line. You make it sound like

You do realize it's not his personal money that gets paid to the players right? Ted's doing the shopping but he's not paying for the groceries. (Yes I did just watch the Parcells thing on NFLN last night.)

Not re-signing your own solid players is not TT's way. But neither is overpaying them. Hawk for 10 million will not be kept. His deal needs to be restructured or he's gone.

It's a different subject when you start bashing Ted Thompson for not signing enough big name FAs.

And I can't envision a situation where both Hawk and Barnett are gone after this season. I'm sure we'll keep at least one of them.

I am hopeful that the entire staff of the Green Bay Packers will realize how much better both Hawk and Bishop play together. It's unfortunate that the huge increase in Hawk's contract will most likely cause a problem with his time here.

I am all for Desmond Bishop > Nick Barnett. I like to think about this similar to Tramon Williams > Al Harris, except Al Harris was actually a great player for the Packers. In the few games that Desmond Bishop has started this season, he has proven to be a starter for the GBP. Anytime this guy makes a hit he brings the boom.

Just to add to it, he makes the players around him better. The ultimate MLB package would be Hawk-Bishop-Chillar and I am hopping onto this bandwagon before it takes off.

Thanks for this thread.

Btw, maybe Barnett knows his time is up...lol, he is selling Big Ugly Red on Ebay...time to make some extra $$$ Nick Barnett's truck for sale.

I hope we keep Bishop over Barnett. The defense seems to play better as a whole and has more toughness with Bishop then Barnett. It is it a coincidence the defense started to really become an elite unit once Barnett got injured?

Am I he only one who thinks there is a good chance that Hawk signs an extension that renegotiates the final year of his current deal down to a manageable number?

Probably heavily front loaded and incentive laden.

RT @Desbishop55 NFL is a rough biz and I hate to see ne1 lose their job. However, that's gotta be a record to get 2 head coaches fired..?!

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
