I say ditch Barnett. Dude's breaking down. Two years in a row he's been IR'd. Hawk looks much better with Bishop in there anyway.

Desmond Bishop could be next Packer to get a new deal
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 20, 2010, 12:29 PM EST

For the last few years, Packers fans have wanted to see linebacker Desmond Bishop play more because of the athleticism and pass-rushing skills he displayed in the preseason. Yet he rarely got off the bench.

Following Nick Barnetts season-ending injury, Bishop finally got his chance. The Green Bay Press-Gazette says Bishop has been as good or better than Barnett a key part to Green Bays peaking defense. A contract extension may not be far behind.

Theres been preliminary talks, and weve kept the lines of communication open, Bishops agent Blake Baratz told Rob Demovsky. Its kind of an ever-changing landscape, but theyve made it clear they want him back, and Desmond would like to be back.

Bishop was known for blowing assigments in the past, but seems to have a better handle on the defense. He provides a lot of big play potential.

Hes been in a situation where hes been wanting to get on the field and get his opportunity, and hes taken the approach that this is my opportunity and my chance to show that I deserve to be out there, defensive coordinator Dom Capers said.

A.J. Hawk is also playing better this year, but hes on the hook for $10 million next season. An extension for Bishop should be simpler to get done and would fit right in with G.M. Ted Thompsons philosophy of paying to keep the teams promising young players.

Bishop-Hawk-Chillar

We can't keep all of 'em. Time to choose. My vote is for the last one.

Oh how I'll miss the dumbass samurai celebration after a routine play. I'll take Hawk over Barnett because of youth and we should keep Chillar as a backup and coverage guy.

What I want in the draft is Matthews bookend. I like Zombo's heart (like Kampmann) but what a thrill it would be for another player that can really bring the pressure.

Zombo's gonna take a quantum leap from year one to year too. Plus we'll get Brad Jones back. Zombo and Jones would be the best backups in the league, if Ted Thompson could nab us another Clay Matthews type OLB on the other side. It'd be very, very nice, and as a team we'd have few if any spots lacking in depth.

Based on my own intuition. Even now he's a decent backup. Either way, I'd still love to see Ted Thompson nab an elite OLB. Last year we needed an LT. The year before, an NT. Heheheh. Shit's been falling to us.

I think we've been about as lucky as anyone with the late round gems. I think I'd rather take my chances on 1st round pass rushers. I think we would have taken Jerry Hughes in the '10 draft if Bulaga had not fallen intor our laps. That was a gift you don't send back. But the '11 draft, I want to see Clay's bookend drafted early.

I feel like a jackass looking forward to the draft when we have a division to win and the playoffs ahead of us. We have a lot of the players in house already that are cornerstones to a very good team for a long time. Had we not had all the injuries this season, the playoffs would be running through GB and they still might.

I don't think Zombo is a good candidate to make a quantum leap from year one to year two. He flashed early this year, but has done very little of note the past several weeks, when he became a regular player and opposing teams started assigning someone to block him.

Of Finland's choices, I like the Bishop, Hawk, and Chillar combo. The defense has been more physical with Bishop in there.
