And like Formo already said in the shout, if you have a problem with the opponent running up the score on you, stop them from scoring. After all, you're getting paid $1 million a year to do just that, not throw a hissy fit that the other team is better than you.

I agree with you and Formo. Did I just utter those words? We should have really buried the Cowboys 2 weeks ago. But when you do that you mess with Princess Karma and she can be an evil bitch.

I don't think you should ever embarrass your division rival though. There is an underlying respect underneath the disdain, and if liberties are taken unnecessarily; you invite trouble on the field, in the stands, and most importatly at the bar.

That's ok. I always wanted a good excuse to punch a Cows fan. Had we crossed the 5-0 barrier, some drunk Cows fan would have lost it and taken a swing. It would be self-defense. :thumbright:

I really couldn't care less.

My team was beaten 1-0 as a kid multiple times.

We've been beaten something like 11-0 multiple times, as well.

I can tell you that the close ones hurt a lot more than the ones we got destroyed in.

That's just the way it goes in sports outside the pro level. You can't always create parity. To just stop playing at a certain score always sounded ridiculous to me.

Putting in back-ups is what we did when we were up bigtime, combined with trying out some thing we didn't risk in a normal game. I remember that goal I made quite well.

We used to play a 3-4-3 with the backs being able to take the ball forward down the sidelines, while the midfielders dropped back. We were up 7-0 when I got the ball deep and decided to just make a run for it. I passed 3 guys on the sideline and lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper from a ridiculous angle. I was so proud of myself that I still remember it like it was yesterday. And that's about 8 years ago.

Ranting like Wade at 19. Ha.

Anyway, I can't really recall any of the huge losses we had. And I certainly never got mad at being outplayed.

Conclusion, putting back-ups in is the sportmanlike thing to do, but really, you don't have to stop playing.

I was hoping that Flynn would get some throws, as well, rather than have Nance run it 4 times for like 5 yards and turn the ball over on downs.

I've never been too much bothered by teams running up the score, as long as the winning team is not calling flea flickers or anything ridiculous like that. With a big lead in the second half, the play calling should be more conservative, but you shouldn't have to tell your backups not to play their hardest.

This is especially true in professional sports. At the lower levels, though, there may be huge differences in talent, so that a team with a big lead really should dial it down a couple notches sometimes.

I'll have you know I never ranted when I was 19. When I was 19 I was young, slim, constantly horny. I was too busy being a geeky nerd living in the library.

Of course it wouldn't be long before I learned to rant. :)

I used to just read curmudgeons like Mencken. Now all of a sudden I find myself an old fart and ...well, never mind.. you know that part of the story.

Yeah, you guys should have rolled up Dallas like wholesale carpet. I was hoping you would. Thing about karma is.. You'd think she'd rear her ugly head against Minny when Dallas re-visited the Dome this year, but she was no where to be found. I think what happened last year's playoff game between my squad and the Cowgirls was karma for some of the crap Dallas has done against Minnesota ('The Trade', 'The Push Off Hail Mary', etc).

You got a point with the division rival thing. As a player, I would want to bury them, 100% of the time. But with your statement on inviting trouble in the stands / bars, brings a very valid point. That said, I still would love to see the Vikings cream the Bearce or Packers by 60 points.

A high score doesn't mean you ran up the score. If you have your backups in and they want to try hard to do well, you can't blame them.

If you have the starters in and they are throwing it deep, you are asking for hard feelings. If you don't respect the opponents enough to not embarrass them on purpose, they won't respect you enough not to cut block one of your guys knee and end his career.

A lot of people don't have a real handle on honor and respect. Only pride and fear. They don't know there is a difference.

OK, I forgot to address this issue:
1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss

Let's say it's close enough that it may get to #7,8, or 9. You gotta run up the score. No hard feelings. Just want to win the division.

beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : you're right, we never did leave, the site just went down :P
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Rock claims to have never eaten a cheese curd
Zero2Cool (3-Aug) : We did not leave.
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Family Night! WE ARE SO BACK!
Mucky Tundra (2-Aug) : To this day, I'm still miffed about his 4 TD game against Dallas on Thanksgiving going to waste
Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
