I think the article is okay. You're just not going to get much info out of a team at this point in the season.

I'm just as confused as others are by the Nance thing. I'm inclined to agree with wpr that Nance is a safety net if Starks isn't ready to contribute. Also, I think McCarthy genuinely likes the change-of-pace offered by John Kuhn.

Nance is similar to Starks but is smaller and only runs a 5.2 40.

From the clips I saw, he's bigger than Nance, faster and more powerful with better vision.

So Green Bay signed Nance, a 5-foot-10, 219-pound rookie, from Atlantas practice squad. At his pro day in March, he ran the 40 yard dash in 4.63 seconds, registered a 33 inch vertical jump, a 9' 6" on the broad jump and bench pressed 19 times.

UB star running back and Niagara Falls native James Starks was selected in the 6th round of the NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Starks missed his senior season at UB after having shoulder surgery just before the season began.

Starks posted back-to-back 1000 yard seasons in his sophomore and junior years at UB. He totaled at school record 3,140 yards and 34 touchdowns for his career at UB. He also caught 127 passes during his career with the Bulls.

Starks was in good shape this spring for the NFL combine and impressed scouts running a 4.5 40 yard dash.

The Packers selected Starks with the 193rd overall pick in the draft.

I feel that we're definitely committed to Starks. We could have put him on IR anytime this season but we waited. Even back in training camp when Ryan Grant was still healthy we didn't put him on IR. Now he's been activated off the PUP and is taking reps at RB. We also haven't seen Nance contribute much if anything to our team at this point so we wouldn't be losing much.

Now that we might have a few more reliable running backs I'm a little interested to see if we get back to using Kuhn at FB. We could run flats out of the backfield and dump it to Kuhn or just hand it off to him to throw the defense off. I remember seeing this work early in this season when Kuhn wasn't involved in our gameplan as a primary or secondary runner.
