You sort of get the feeling Ted is a good talent evaluator and knows how he wants to build his team and hes very good at building a team but hes not a very good communicator to the players. And thats why this probably wasn't handled in the best possible way like the Favre catastrophe.

Ironman, that was probably the third or fourth best of your posts that I've ever read.... maybe the fifth.

I assume this was supposed to be funny because IMO its one of the worst posts I have read from IM -

Al Harris was a true hero; he worked his ass off to come back from a season ending injury and potentially career ending.

He was my favorite guy on the team- until CM came along ...

football might be a business but IMO its bad business to treat someone like this; a washed up player.

hats off to the man with the heart of a lion

Im usually not bitter but I hope he plays for a team the packers play and goes in for a pick 6

The play of Tramon Williams and our secondary as a whole has been great. Where do you expect Al Harris' roster spot to come from? Underwood would be my only thought or suggestion.

I am surprised you didn't mention the one player that most people have wanted cut for years, Jarrett Bush (Penalities, Penalities, Penalities/Steelers loss last year). He did play great against the Vikings. However, I am surprised more people aren't wanting the Packers to keep Harris over Bush.

"DanJustDan29" wrote:

Bush is a special teams player and the #6 CB. If Harris was a better fit for that sort of role then yes, they should have kept him over Bush. But Harris is not a special teams player, and he would be a poor fit as anything less than the #3 CB, due to his high salary and his previous role on the team. It's hard to imagine Harris being happy as the dime back or worse.

I hate to see Al go, but I have to assume that he just wasn't showing enough in practice to merit the #3 CB spot. Even if it was close, the tie goes to Sam Shields, who is young and full of potential and is now beginning to play a role on special teams.

How do we know he is washed up - numerous reasons why they could of let him go. Look at A smith from last year ... dont you think harris deserves more of a chance then just to get his walking papers?

what about the effect his leaving has on the team - him and woodson have been friends for awhile.

or the fans whom pay the bills ...

You haven't answered my question. Whom do you propose that this team cut for a player who apparently hasn't shown the potential to usurp our #4 CB?

The point of a team is to win games, not to provide cushy berths to old and injured players. You don't win games by reducing the quality of your squad out of a misguided sense of loyalty.

problem is no use conjecturing about whom should stay or go - Im just not happy about harris being off our team. Be real sad if we made it to the SB and he wasnt there in green and gold.

I made the statement about smith because we all were shocked last season when he grabbed 2 ints in the preseason and then got booted off the team. Even woodson made a comment.

So just because Ted Thompson does something doesnt mean hes that smart of a guy.

and can you imagine training your ass off after that type of injury so you could be back on the team and having all indications that this would be so and then just having that go away?

I agree with Non about the washed up part. Said so before he got hurt.

With the rash of injuries this year, coupled with the crap load endured last year at the position, I'm sure it was a close decision.

From what I have read, IMO Ted and Mike could have done a better job in communicating with Al at the very end.

If it were me, for example, when I made the decision to not activate him for Sunday's game, I would have told him why that decision was made.

I would have also told him that a decision on whether we were going to keep him or release him would be made Monday, and I would have told him precisely why we were waiting until then.

I would have ALSO told him that we would need to be in contact with him Monday at a specific time to let him know what that decision was. I think I would have had both Ted and Mike, probably his position coach as well on that conference call.

Like I said, I'm just as pragmatic as Non regarding Al, but being very up-front with him would have cost nothing, and imo he did deserve what some might view as some extra TLC/Special treatment.

"Spleen??!!" "I don't need me no mf'ing spleen!" "Take it out, doc, I got me a game to play against Tampa!"

I love ya Al :thumbleft:

That shit right there ought to be put in the Packer hall of fame, lol

Now we want AL to have an int and a pick 6 vs the Packers?

Al said it himself, he lost his job to an injury..I am baffled at all this as well since a coach was on record saying AL looks better then before the injury..

So why can't he play?

For what ever reason, he wont/cant play nickle...Maybe they seen that Shields is just as good...

Shields has more upside??

Shields has more upside.

Shields upside is looking incalculable at this point.
