We're going to need to be replacing Charles Woodson at some point, too. I would have felt better if they had signed Tramon Williams to a long term contract already. With Al Harris cut, Ted needs to show Tramon some love FAST.

Woodson's career will be prolonged because of his versatility.

Woodson would make a damn good Leroy Butler-ish safety, but we'll still need a cornerback to replace him. Shields is playing great for someone who played the position for only 1 year in college, but he's got a height (5-11) issue that the Cowboys/Dez Bryant exploited some in the game Sun. Shields had Bryant covered pretty well, but the Cowboys were throwing it high and letting Bryant outjump Shields for the ball.

If Shields IS the one, then we'll need someone else to step up as the nickleback. In any event, we could be hurting big time at CB next year if we don't get Tramon signed.

"I guess they feel I'm not good enough to play on their team," Harris said. "That was shocking. They really caught me off guard with this one."

....

Asked if he thought another NFC North team would go after him, Harris said: "Yeah, I do. I probably can't say who."

Harris said he planned to use his release as motivation to continue his career.

"I'm about to go work out and tear it up," Harris said. "Who knows how much more I'll go out and play? I might have a couple more years left. Once this thing is official we'll start the process from there. There's going to be interest."

Harris said he felt he was led on the past three weeks because he practiced as the top nickel corner and was told to study as though he were going to play that week. Then, each Saturday he'd be informed that he wasn't going to play.

When he found out he wasn't going to play against Dallas, he knew it was the end.

"I thought they'd be a little more straight forward with me," Harris said. "They had me going home and studying and things like that and they allready knew their plans. I guess you hear it so much that it's a business. It's just the way it goes.

"I had a great time in Green Bay. I have nothing bad to say about the time that I was there. Everybody was great. I guess Mike and Ted just thought I wasn't good enough to play on their team."

Asked if he thought this was just another example of Thompson wanting to go with a young roster, Harris said: "That may be it, but I don't thnk it's just a that. I kind of started to feel after awhile ... I don't know. It just caught me off guard."

Look, the Packers could have simply cut him in the offseason, when he was worthless to anyone, and he would have forfeited his entire salary, not to mention probably lost out on any chance to make another squad. As it is, they kept him on the PUP list, allowed to him to workout and rehabilitate his knee (and potentially his career) on Green Bay Packers property, and ensured he is paid his entire base salary for the year. As far as I can tell, he has nothing to complain about. Lest we forget, this team no longer plays a primarily man-coverage scheme, the type of scheme in which Harris thrives. Had he shown enough potential to get on the field this season under Dom Capers' scheme (and yes, I know he played on this defense last year), they no doubt would have retained him. As it is, they would have had to cut one of their other players to make room for him, players who might actually contribute next year. And might I remind you that some of our best contributors this year were undrafted free agents or started out as backups. The Packers organization has put Al Harris in the best possible position to succeed elsewhere. Now he needs to shut his mouth, ante up, and secure himself a position on a team that has more acute need of his services.

Look, Al is a fierce competitor. He worked his ass off to recover from one of the worse knee injuries a human can have. He had what was it, five tendons or something snap tear or rip? This happened in his mid 30's too. He was already losing a step.

I think him saying the Packers led him on is pathetic and I'm surprised he'd say something like that. I've always admired him for his blunt comments and intelligence. But he needs to get real.

I don't doubt the Packers were weighing Sam vs Al and if Sam faltered they'd have cut someone else, depending on if Sam showed promise.

If Al would have gotten any time, it'd have taken away from Tramon or Sam, what good would that do when he's not better than either of them?

No one likes to lose their job. Add in his intense rehab over the past year or so. Yeah, he's gonna be pissed. Al himself said the Packers told him to take as much as he needed. They had to make the best choice for the Packers, not Al Harris.

Unfortunately for Al, he's nothing more than a Dime CB on our roster and honestly, I bet the Packers feel Al deserves at least a Nickel. They did him a favor, even if he doesn't see it now.

Am I wrong in the impression that Dimitri Nance provides better value for the Packers than Al Harris? That is the signal I am receiving because clearly, Nance's roster spot is worth more than Harris'.

Al must have lost a lot of steps after his torn ACL. I think he's actually taken the news quite well. If I was going to be cut after being disallowed to practice, I'd be quite upset they didn't cut me earlier. Though given that he is okay with it, perhaps he's reticent to agree that he actually isn't the athlete he was before the injury.

In any case, I'll always remember him for that time when he shut up Matt Hasselbeck. One of many fond memories that Al has provided for us over the years. Best of luck, maybe we'll see you around Lambeau again.

The play of Tramon Williams and our secondary as a whole has been great. Where do you expect Al Harris' roster spot to come from? Underwood would be my only thought or suggestion.

I am surprised you didn't mention the one player that most people have wanted cut for years, Jarrett Bush (Penalities, Penalities, Penalities/Steelers loss last year). He did play great against the Vikings. However, I am surprised more people aren't wanting the Packers to keep Harris over Bush.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
