I don't think taxes are stupid. Taxes are necessary and a rightful function of government. However, there are legitimate taxes and illegitimate taxes. Taxes that disincentivize good stewardship and accomplishment -- like inheritance and progressive income taxes -- are an illegitimate use of the government's taxing power, in my opinion.

One of the great ironies of the American political landscape is that Americans are always clamoring for more government handouts, more benefits, more entitlements, more interventions, more funding, yet they're equally adamant that they not pay more taxes. That's obviously an unsustainable -- and irresponsible -- fiscal model. In my opinion, every time Americans demand a tax cut, there should be an equal, if not greater, cut in benefits. It would be interesting to see what effect that would have on the opinions of taxpayers.

Class envy is rife in this country. We don't even try to hide it anymore.

It's not right that someone works hard all their life, and leaves land for their child, only to have it taxed to high heaven. That's insane.
And they wonder why people just spend what little they have now adays.
They tax you to make it, tax you to spend it, and tax you to save it.
Yes, i understand that taxes are a necessary evil, but come on! It's to the point of rediculous. 20% right off the top when you earn it, then over 5% when you spend it. And gasoline taxes??? Come on! Where does all THAT money go???

And the comment about a 60 year old that watch es Fox.......i feel that alot of us "old guys" have been around awhile, and have seen what works and what doesn't work. So the majority (not all mind you) of us old people have gone that way because we have seen what really happens when certain types are in office. I was brought up in public schools, where being a conservative was treated like you had the plague. Typical of schools and colleges today. I learned to vote more from the "right" because of years of expierience.

There are plenty of corrupt wealthy people out there, but that doesn't change the fact that pretty much everything you value in life, you owe to a rich person somewhere. Rich people are what make this world worth living. There is just as much corruption -- and in my opinion, far more -- among the poor as among the rich. It irks me that most people seem to assume that the rich get to their status by unjust means. Maybe we should be turning our critical eye upon the poor, seeing how they're fucking up, and learning from their mistakes, instead of trying to tear everyone down who's learned the rules of life and played the game better than we have.

Did you vote democrat once in your life cheesey?

Obviously, you have the right to vote for who you want. I know youre a man of faith, so maybe that plays a factor. Still my point is over the course of your life, you can't tell me that not once there was a democrat that was better than a republican. I say the same thing to my dad as well. He's never voted republican and he just turned 60. His mother (my grandmother) has also never voted republican. Though she didn't like Obama. Not sure what she thinks of him now.

I can't believe that not once there wasn't a republican with better ideas. After all, ideas are always evolving. Nobody is open-minded and that's the problem in my opinion with the 60-year old that watches FOX or the 20-year old college student. My point is that it's sad that 80% of the electorate really has no say who becomes an elected official. It's really the 20% in the middle that decides the fate of the country. And you know what, those 20% have been wrong before.

There is no right type of person to vote for. Experience as a voter means nothing IMO. We have to choose between dumb and dumber. At the end of the day, we're still electing an idiot. Yeah, we've had exceptions, but that seems more rare than common. And that's why I don't understand how someone can defend another politician as much as people do when they talk politics.

I'd agree with you if everyone started life with an even playing field, but since the poor start life with 2 and 7/8 strikes against them we'll need to dismiss the notion of judging the poor for their fuckups. Well, by historical standards most of the "poor" of America aren't.

True or false: Per capita real income in China today is less than 1/8th of per capita real income in the USA.

True or false: Per capita real income in China today is less than the current USA "poverty line".

True or false: Per capita real income in India today is less than 1/15th of per capita real income in the USA.

True or false: Per capita real income in India today is less than 1/2 of the current USA "poverty line".

All four answers: True.

And that's *after* the record growth of the last decade or so in China and India.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
