Well, I'm going to say something that will probably piss some people off on the board, but I'm seeing the same thing this one scout is seeing. People feared Brett Favre, so they kept the Safety back. It makes a HUGE difference in the run game.

One scout kept saying that defenses totally were geared to stop Favre, and that the threat of the play-action pass kept safeties out of the box.

That was the quote just in case someone didn't read the whole article.

So Favre opened up the run. The problem this year is our OL sucks. It sucked last year too, but Favre was able to hide how much it sucked.

The problem is not Ryan Grant. It's the OL. Favre was able to keep the Safety back and really help out the run game. Opposing Ds aren't giving AR the respect they were giving Favre.

What MM needs to do is be more aggressive on offense and score more in the air, forcing Ds to keep the Safety back to open up some lanes for Grant. When AR starts burning Ds with more deep TD passes, then Ds will be forced to adjust accordingly and you will see more running lanes for Ryan Grant.

Then in the offseason, Ted Thompson needs to fix this OL. He's had 3 years to do it, and so far, he's been mediocre at it. I'm really starting to hate this ZBS experiment. It works for Denver but not for us. It's about time we let this experiment die.

I honestly don't know so could somebody tell me. Is McGinn a Bears or Vikings fan? I'm thinking Bears. I've seen writer from both of those teams write nicer and more knowageable pieces on the Packers than McGinn.

To be honest I want the Packers to throw the "running OL" out there...

By that I mean

Colledge, Barbre, Spitz, Sitton and Tausher.

Yes that group isn't nearly as good in the passing game but much better in the run game and the run sets up the pass.

And for the people that say the pass sets up the run, that can be true but it's easier IMO to use the run to set up passes.

One of the benefits of the WCO was for the pass to set up the run. We're currently using a variation of the WCO.

I'd like to see a little bit more aggressive gameplanning to force Ds to drop the Safety back to help open up the run more. If we do that, Grant will get more holes.

beast, I think you've misunderstood the offense the packers are playing.

McCarthy comes from the Bill Walsh coaching tree and runs a pretty clean west coast offense and one of the aims of the west coast offense is to set up the run with a short horizontal passing game.

Since you obviously didn't, just read this section. Here, I'll copy and paste it for you just to make it easy:

I think the man has some points. Its pretty obvious Grant isnt doing what he should be doing. The way hes running at the moment, he deserves a back-up salary at best, but no one could've seen that coming before this season.

Especially the easy cutting is nice. No team is gonna pick him up the way he's running now, so maybe we could just cut him and sign him for alot less... his skills can't have flown away, so he ought to get better eventually.

Going deeper into this though, whatever happend to being honored by playing in front of millions of people. And most people would kill to make 1.5 million a year, yet, a guy that has 6 good games just gets millions of dollars. Even holding out when not getting it.... >.>

I don't misunderstand it but prefer a system where the everything is based on a LOT of power running and running it over and over and wearing down the other teams defense.

Basically it was a little rant from me like the one people have about the defense not attacking and blitzing to much but this time it was on offense. (BTW I have not really complained about the defense too much because the defense looks worse when they blitz than when they don't.)
