I mostly agree with Childress. The best you can say is that upon contact with the ground, the ball was propelled from Shiancoe's hands into his chest, whereupon he immediately regained full possession. I think it was a catch.

Trent Dilfer was making a big deal out of this on ESPN, but I'm not sure it's going to be a big deal. Childress said something about how "we" need to make better decisions and throw to the open receiver (referring to a play where Favre did not notice an open receiver) and not throw pick-sixes. It was something along those lines. When Favre was asked afterwards about the first comment by Childress, he said that Childress was correct. He wasn't asked about the second comment. I'm not so sure this will be a big controversy, at least not by Favre standards.

It's supposed to be "fifty guys in a bar," not "fifty drunks in a bar." It sort of loses its impact when they are drunk. Childress is right, though. I thought it was a weird call. And the Packers were lucky that the refs missed on the Quarless TD.

At any rate, it will be interesting to watch the drama unfold in Viking-land this week.

I have to agree with Childress on this, the refs did in fact hand the game to the Packers (which I will take). The Shiancoe touchdown, yes it was a td, was a gift, so was the blown td call by Quarless and also at the end they missed a obvious PI call on the Harvin attempt at the td. We as fans have to just suck it up and say thank you to the refs some times. I walked into work this morning and I was curious to see what the Steeler fans would say about their win. I told them we won and was thankful for the refs giving us the game and I was waiting for the same from them, but they wouldn't admit it. I guess that is what makes us Packer fans the best fans in the league.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

The Quarless TD wasn't a TD. Everyone could see that. That's why you have two challenges, though. If you're as much of an idiot as Childress is, you keep the red flag in your pocket on plays like that.

After seeing that play, he ought to have doubted whether that was good or not. And his players could've easily given him confirmation that it wasn't actually a TD.

The Shiancoe call can go either way. He's holding the tip off the ball out. Obviously, when you hit the ground in that case, the ball will move a bit. Did he get full control of the ball before he hit the ground? That's more of a judgement call. One that went our way for a change.

I'd like to hear Chilly's comments on the constant holding from his O-line, the ridiculous V formations that they come out in and never get called for, the 15 yards they got as a gift for some bogus late hit call and whatever I'm forgetting here.

But no, Dhazer, you're right. We didn't win, the refs won it for us. That's very consistent with what you said last year after the Cardinals game, when we couldn't blame anyone but ourselves because our defense gave up too much points.

You're not registered under Marstc09 over at PP.O, are you?

I watched the game a second time, this was not handed to the Packers by the refs. A case can be made Childress gave us an extra 4 points. Watch the game again, watch the lines and tally the holding calls not called on both OL's.

I don't think it needs to be said that Quarless didn't continue with the process of catching the ball. That's not the ref's handing the game to the Packers, Childress had timeouts and challenges. That's a gift from Childress, not the refs.

I'll be paying more attention to catches after Shiancoe's TD was ruled incomplete. Mike has often said he'll throw the flag and hope for a decision in his favor. He got that this time. I thought it was a catch live, then the replay you can see the ground pushed the ball into his hands. I think that is why they ruled it incomplete. I don't know the specific rules pertaining to that so I'm not sure. I still think if the ball hits the ground, it's incomplete. I don't like the rule about trapping it or what not. Ball hits ground, dead ball, period.

The NFL has taken a somewhat simple process of ruling it a catch or not into something that is becoming a joke.

Just as the Johnson non catch was a catch earlier this season, that was a catch. However because of the lack of a "second football move" and movement of the ball.. they are now all shaded in gray. The ball hit the ground yes.. but the ball move, but Shiancoe still had control.

But the NFL has colored that a non catch a couple of times this season.. and if you are going to call it once, you have to call it consistently as such. As much bullshit as it seems to be.. right along with shove rule along the boundaries... but at least in that stance it is black and white.. receiver is either in or out.

Gift to Packers: Shiancoe TD, Quarless TD, Burt Farve

Packers got screwed: the grass tackled Quarless on fake FG, spot on Jennings 3rd down catch in 4th quarter then blowing play dead too early on Kuhn, 2 redzone picks by Rodgers, missed holds on Woodson blitzes and CM3

Through penalties and self-inflicted wounds, I think the lucky breaks balanced.

As for Burt getting called out, I think Dilfer is trying to make something out of nothing. Burt was playing like crap, and there are 20 million reasons why he should be able to be ridiculed in public, and he's got 20 million pieces of paper to wipe his tears with if he can't take a little heat from Chilly

On the radio, they're saying on the interception in the end zone they're saying the defender who tipped the ball stepped out of bounds.

Sounds like he probably re-established himself before tipping the ball?
