When Ted Thompson drafted Harrell he had the chance to trade down to Clevland's second, which wasn't too much lower, and then pick up Clevland's first this year. Harell is a bust so far, we may have been able to get him with that second rd pick, and we could have gotten Rashard Mendenhall(or whoever) this year's with the first. But that's all hindsight.

What seems to contradict TT's value of drafts choice is that he didn't make the trade to pick up an extra pick that was also a high pick. Especially being in a building mode.

I wish we would have made that trade. What really hurts is the Cowgirls did. This has been on my mind since then and I'm just curious what others would have done. What do you think?

Denver was going to jump on harrell ( they picked 17th and Packers picked 16th ) and I have a feeling Ted Thompson knew that

You do what you needed to do AT THE TIME...

now does it look stupid? Possibly...

But at the time he was a projected top ten pick.....He had an injury that should have been a non issue after a few months.

No one knew he would injury him self this past year playing Wii.

Well if you look at Harrell's career thus far anything would have been better. I don't know if we should have made any trade but I do know I thought it was a reach when it happened. I just wish we would have gone with another player

You're going to get busts in the NFL, it's just how any draft works. You can't really complain about it because it really is a crap shoot. You don't know which players will pan out and which will fall on their face. The idea of drafting Harrell was a very good one, we wanted some young depth in the interior defensive line and we knew that we would lose some in free agency later that year. They were hoping Harrell would build his way up last season and be ready to kick it in to gear this season but it hasn't worked out well. You win some, you lose some.

One season doesn't make or break a player.. up until Harrell hurt himself in the weight room.. reports were favorable that he was progressing nicely.. to this point, yes it doesn't look great.. but cut the kid a little slack.

On the trade.. yes it seemed a little out of character for Ted not to pull the trigger on the deal with Cleveland.. but that is where I think they had enough value in Harrell to pull the trigger on him.. we gotta let this play out a bit longer.. in terms of a little Texas Hold'em.. we only have three cards on the table right now.. I'll wait for the turn and river cards before I throw my hand away.

I don't remember ever hearing he could have been a top round pick. I heard LATE second round..

Many like this.. injury brought his stock down.. otherwise alot of the scouting sites had him in the top 15.. roll the bones type pick on the kid a little cause of injury.. but not lacking talent.

Justin Harrell Scouting Report
Position: DT
School & Year/Status: Tennessee - Drafted
Height & Weight: 6'5 - 305 lbs.
Drafted 1.16 by GB

2007 NFL Draft Prospect - Scouting Report
Harrell's 2006 campaign at Tennessee was derailed just three games into the season by a ruptured biceps tendon, but his stock has been on a steady climb since the end of the season. Scouts love his toughness, as exemplified by the fact that after he ruptured the tendon against Air Force, he returned to the game and even played the next week against Florida. Harrell also benched a solid 31 reps at 225 pounds at his Pro Day on March 22. The 6-5, 305-pound defensive tackle is a beast against the run, but he does need to improve on rushing the quarterback. He does, however, have the strength to overpower offensive lineman and disrupt QBs by collapsing the pocket. Durability questions naturally surround him, as Harrell also missed time in 2003 and 2004. Still, Harrell is the third best defensive tackle in this draft class and he figures to come off the board late in round one or early in round two.

Martha Careful (3h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (3h) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (3h) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (5h) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (5h) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (5h) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (8h) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (9h) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (16h) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (16h) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (16h) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (17h) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Game not over yet
beast (18h) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (18h) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (18h) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (19h) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (19h) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (19h) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (20h) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (20h) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (22h) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (22h) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (23h) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (23h) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (23h) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Ravens still alive, but barely
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Or not...BUT THAT CATCH BY NACUA
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : WE MAY HAVE BEEN PREMATURE KANATA
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Time to make dinner
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Ouch!!!! Dagger for the Eagles
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : DAGGER
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : pass plays
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Seems some of their passes are too deep. Reminds me of MLF as well.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oren Burks with a clutch pass break up...I will now light myself on fire
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : a run on 2nd down and 17 from McVay? So that's where MLF gets it from!
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Do or die time for the Rams
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking field goals are impressive
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oh that might be a backbreaker
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : That's what I thought too, just wasn't sure
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking doesn't make much sense
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : If the Rams score a TD on the upcoming drive, they go for 2, right?
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Stafford is pretty good with 4th quarter comebacks. I would like to see it.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : YUGE stand by the Rams D there
