Well... that's that. What a shock...

I'm not saying a trade actually occurred (I doubt it did), but just because the deadline is past and we haven't heard of a trade doesn't mean a trade didn't happen.

Ahman Green was last sighted playing in the UFL. Don't know if their season is still going on, Green was a teammate of the ex-buckeye complete failure Maurice Clairette.

Don't remeber which team they play for, just remember reading they were teammates.

Green Bay needs Ahman!!!!!

James Starks is going to practice this week according to MM, in his press conference yesterday.

We dont need Ahman, we'd just all like to see him again.

It'll be interesting to see who actually starts at SS now that Bigby and Smith are there. My money is on Bigby.

I certainly wouldn't. I don't think Rockmolder would either.

Since I'm not one to disapprove of a signing for the sake of disapproving (Clifton, Tauscher disapproval are similar) ... if Ahman Green could help the team, I'd be cool with it.

I'm all for signing players who can help us and I just don't think Green can anymore.

I still don't understand why the NFL trade deadline is so damn early. It seems absurd to me. Why not let teams who have a legitimate chance to make a playoff push bone up as the postseason approaches, while teams that have no chance can unload talent and gear up for the offseason?

I think you answered your own question with your post.

I'd prefer it be week 8-10 instead of around week 6. It'd be nice to have a game or two to evaluate your PUP players and decide if a trade is needed.

Here is what Andrew Brandt said in response to this question.

NFP- Andrew answers Mailbag

Why is the trading deadline so early in the NFL season?
I always wondered the same. In Major League Baseball, with the trading deadline not until four months of the season has passed, there is always more activity and thus more buzz surrounding the deadline due to the late timing.
The reason stated by the NFL for the early deadline is to avoid exactly what baseball allows the opportunity to rent players for the stretch drive of seasons, thereby tipping the balance of power to the bigger spending teams.
Although there has been one of those trades already in the NFL with Randy Moss going to the Vikings from the Patriots the league would say that 13 games of a 16 game season would classify more as a true trade rather than the mercenary rental in baseball. The Cliff Lee trade this year between the Mariners and Rangers in baseball, despite its impact on the playoff races, is not what the NFL envisions with its trading deadline.
I understand the leagues desire to limit late-season hired gun acquisitions, but the early deadline limits the buzz and sizzle that trading deadlines in other leagues create.

Mucky Tundra (13h) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (15h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (15h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (15h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (18h) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
Zero2Cool (27-Jan) : Packers coach Matt LaFleur hires Luke Getsy as senior assistant, extends Rich Bisaccia's deal
