If Uncle Ted does give up another draft choice in a trade, I expect a lot of trading down in next year's draft.

If we land Marion Barber, I will be very excited. Too bad we have too many pussies for Olineman to really make good use of a power back.

I don't remember where I read this, but I'm not the first is the point. Ryan Grant doesn't NEED a lead blocker like Brandon Jackson does, which is why Ryan will be more successful in an awful OL than Brandon. I mention this because I think Barber is more like Grant in that aspect and even with a bad OL, I think Barber can make a positive impact for us.

I'll must preface this post, with my opinion that our offensive line & special teams is my biggest concern. But RB is still on the list.

The real problem is that in this crazy season, only a few teams are in complete meltdown mode: Browns, Bills, Raiders (as always), Cowboys, Panthers, & 49ers.

The Browns and the Bills have already made a move at RB. The Raiders and 49ers best offensive players are their RBs.

The Cowboys & Panthers both have young RBs that were high draft picks and are currently splitting time with veterans. That leaves 2 options at RB: DeAngelo Williams & Marion Barber.

Marion Barber hasn't looked good in two years. He's gotten slow and tenative. That said, he still is a major upgrade over Kuhn. He is not worth more than a 5th round pick, IMO. If Ted Thompson won't cough up a 3rd for Lynch, he damn sure won't for MB3. Tashard Choice, however, is a versatile back w/out a lot of mileage. Might be worth a chance.

We'll have to up the ante for Williams, b/c he is far superior RB. A second should get it done, but is a very steep price to pay for a RB who may still struggle due to our anemic o-line.

My guess, however, is that Ted Thompson will stand pat. Anthony Smith is the only midseason trade I can recall in the Ted Thompson era, and we all know how much he loves his draft picks.

I'm tempted to think that our next starting running back will be Ahman Green, actually...

Doom and gloom alert.

Is it worth it to trade right now, esp. a 3rd for barber/choice?

We're not even 1/2 way through the season and have already lost 7 or how many starters, poppinga this week...what more is still on the horizon?

I feel like someone standing in front of a dam with a lot of tiny pinhole leaks. He tries to stand in front closing the holes with his fingers and toes, thinks he has it plugged, then another hole opens, so he contorts his body, plugs it, and another hole and on and on and on.

At some point here do we just run away from the dam and let the water flow wherever it's going to flow?

Let me ask ... what one position are we lacking that would HELP solidify our team? Of course, no one position will resolve all of our issues, I specifically am asking, which one would HELP MOST solidify our issues.

First, we must ask, what is our biggest issue?
Second, is it capable of being resolved by one player?
Third, what player would resolve said issue?
Fourth, is that player available?
Fifth, at what cost is this player worth and is it justifiable?

I don't think we have any one position that we are lacking that can be fixed or helped dramatically by one player. I think our issues are depth, rather, lack of depth.

I don't like Jackson as our number one, but I think he's find if our OL gets it's act together, which needs to be done regardless of who's running behind it.

I believe our offense just needs to gel with the players we have.

DL is banged up.
LB I believe we're going to be okay.
CB I think we're fine with Woodson, Williams, Shields and add in Harris. That's a good foursome.
S Collins and Smith, good duo. Bigby backing up, good. I think we need another safety as I don't believe Peprah is the answer. I'd rather Blackmon on the roster than him, because then Will can return punts, instead of Tramon.

You will laugh. You will say I'm stupid. You will mock me for this, but I feel our weakest position is ... Punter. I didn't think he did bad last game, then looked things over. When we needed a good punt, he pooched 37 yards.

Edit, to wrap up my little story. We will not make a trade, it does not suit our team in the long run even though us fans think it's a sexy idea. We're not one position player away from being the 'IT' team.

Panthers | Will not be sellers prior to trade deadline
Tue, 19 Oct 2010 08:10:13 -0700

The Carolina Panthers will not trade any of their veteran players prior to the NFL trade deadline, according to a team source, reports Jason La Canfora, of NFL Network. "There is nothing going on with us at all," the source said, "and there won't be anything going on with us." Teams have interest in WR Steve Smith and RBs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, but none of them is even a candidate to be dealt, according to the source.
