I haven't looked at the numbers in depth recently, but to say the Packers weren't in third-and-long situations last year is absurd. Purely on an intuitive level, I'd guess they were in such situations more often last year than they are this year, which is one of the reasons why Rodgers' numbers on third down were so spectacular.

I'd like to do an analysis of this, but I'm not sure where I'd be able to find the information easy without having to slog through endless pages of play-by-play.

Personally, I don't think it is the talent we have on the line....I think it hasa lot more to do with ZBS and coaching.

What is wrong is McCarthy. He refuses to run Jackson when getting over 4 ypc or dump flair pass to him when he is getting 10 ypc recieving. McCarthy seems to want this offense to be arial at the expense of wins.

Defenses can pass rush like they have a 20 point lead in the 4th all game because McCarthy isn't going to run. They are constantly in Shotgun which is an advantage to the Dline over oLine with no snap count to go from. The secondary in LBers are able to play in the passing lanes because of the lack of trying to run.

Jackson needs to be used correctly. Much like Edgar Bennett was in 95. He could get us 900-1000 yards rushing, and also 500 or so recieving if McCarthy would run the WCO instead of trying to be the greatest show.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

While I don't like to see complaining or a dependence on the other team committing penalties, I do understand that QBs are being protected outside of Green Bay. If that hit occurred on Tom Brady, there is yellow on the field.

Personally, I think some of the penalties are ridiculous, but either call them or don't. Right now, it's picking and choosing.

I think it's a fantasy football thing. Penalty yards aren't accounted for so keep the yellow in your pocket and hope he throws for those yards on the next play.

I don't know why this thread devolved into a debate about the run game (like every other thread...) but the issue here is with officials calling penalties. For whatever reason Rodgers seems to miss a lot of penalties other players get the flag for. Two weeks in a row now we've seen Rodgers get slammed with helmet to helmet contact, end up hurt and the refs say nothing.

Maybe it has something to do with the offensive line, and that Rodgers is seeing a lot more fat guys in his face than the rest of the league. Hell, maybe it does have something to do with the lack of run plays called, but the real issue here is player safety.

Football is a physical sport, and part of the reason we all watch it is to see players make contact, but I am not interested in watching a sport that devolves into violence. For TWO WEEKS now the league as failed to protect one of its star players from this violence. If they can't make a statement about helmet to helmet violence when Aaron Rodgers is getting smashed behind the line, imagine the shit they're missing with the poor bastards in the trenches are subjected to players behaving badly.

Yes, the fact that Rodgers has guys in his face is a Packers problem, but the lack of flags when those players fail to tackle well (part of their job description for which they are paid millions) is a officiating problem and a league problem.

I love football, but I'm getting sick of it.

Yes, it seems Aaron Rodgers is getting all kinds of illegal hits on him. Wht arn't they being called? I don't know. Maybe he's not a big enough "star" for the NFL to give a damn.
It also doesn't seem that our "great" WR group is getting open. That, and 2 seconds for Aaron Rodgers to find anyone before he gets creamed, and you have the recipe for another loss.
I don't have much hope for beating the Queens next week.

Silentio - There is favoritism in any sport. Had Tom Brady or Peyton Manning taken those hits, you can bet they'd be called. Rodgers isn't an NFL favorite yet.

It's just like that annoying palming crap that Michael Jordan did. Had I been a ref and someone was doing that at a HS game, I would have called it. I hated watching Jordan dribble the ball.

beast (17m) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (17m) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (10h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (10h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (12h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (13h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (13h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (14h) : Thank you
wpr (14h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (14h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (14h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (14h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (14h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (15h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (15h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (15h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (15h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (15h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
