I'm guessing that comment came after the Ice Bowl?

Someone can add in here, but I remember reading a Lombardi book, and he lost a playoff game exactly like this. Not taking the 3 when he had the chance. He never made that mistake again. Its a tough one I guess; the Skins were on the ropes at that point and a touchdown rammed downn their throat might have taken the fight out of them. Then again, not taking the 3 cost us the game.

Really? Oh, right, we lost by 3 points so the 3 we missed out on in the FIRST QUARTER is directly responsible.

You can't honestly believe your words? The following 3 quarters of missed opportunities had a lot more to do with the loss than the goalline stand.

I liked the idea of going for it. Made sense at the time and makes sense now. I'm not sure about the play call. I wouldn't of called Quarless' or Hall's number in that situation, but I agree with going for it.

The Packers were playing to win the game and they need that type of killer instinct. Well, that's what it does. Granted, it was early in the game, but it sends a good message.

Furthermore, it's easy to question someone for going for it when you lose a close game. Had the Packers won, this is a non issue. Therefor, it's not much of an issue, unless a trend starts to develop, where Green Bay continues to go for it and leaves points off the board.

Conventional wisdom says take the points - especially on the road. Today I would have agreed.

If we had a better running game I'd think differently.

I don't remember Zero. I read it in a Lombardi bio by Dave Maraniss (?) which I now can't find or I'd look it up. I'm thinking it was the early 60's not long after he got here and it was against either the Giants or Eagles.

I was pleased that McCarthy went for it on 4th and would have been pissed had he not done so. The problem was the play call on 3rd down, which made no sense. I personally would have called a crossing pattern, but that's why I was sitting in the bar watching the game instead of holding the playsheet on the sidelines.

I'm torn on the wisdom of challenging the Nelson touchdown. I think every sane observer watching the game realizes it was a legitimate touchdown. However, I'm not convinced there would have been indisputable evidence to overturn the call. More than likely the end result would have been a forfeited time out.

I guess I'm divided here. Both arguments have sound logic, especially when you take the time frame into account. When the 4-1 pass fell incomplete I thought "Hmm, hope not taking the 3 doesn't come back to bite them." But the way the game was going then, it didn't look like it would be an issue. Lovie's gotten away with it twice this year too.

My 73 year old father however called me immediately to gripe. His opinion is that you ALWAYS take sure points (which assumes a chip shot is automatic), UNLESS you're quite a bit behind in the score. And under those guidelines it doesn't matter what quarter it is.

Live during the game, I wanted a the field goal. First time in Rodgers career he missed a sneak was a bad sign and I didn't want to give up more momentum.

The play call was actually pretty good. We had the play, Quarless beat his man. Rodgers messed up. He didn't get the ball up. so the defender luckily hit it. Put that ball a couple feet higher and we have the TD.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
