I'm guessing that comment came after the Ice Bowl?

I don't remember Zero. I read it in a Lombardi bio by Dave Maraniss (?) which I now can't find or I'd look it up. I'm thinking it was the early 60's not long after he got here and it was against either the Giants or Eagles.

I only ask because in the (i think) 1967 NFL Championship Game we were down 14 - 17 on the goal line with not much time left and instead of kicking a FG we ran a QB sneak to win 21 - 17.

Someone can add in here, but I remember reading a Lombardi book, and he lost a playoff game exactly like this. Not taking the 3 when he had the chance. He never made that mistake again. Its a tough one I guess; the Skins were on the ropes at that point and a touchdown rammed downn their throat might have taken the fight out of them. Then again, not taking the 3 cost us the game.

Really? Oh, right, we lost by 3 points so the 3 we missed out on in the FIRST QUARTER is directly responsible.

You can't honestly believe your words? The following 3 quarters of missed opportunities had a lot more to do with the loss than the goalline stand.

If we had the 3 would we have gone to OT?

It's that simple huh?

Let's say the score was 16 - 10 on the drive the Redskins kicked the tying FG.

Let's say the Redskins don't alter their play calling for that drive to aim for a TD instead of FG either.

Now its 4th and 2, on the 27 yard line. They're down by six with two time outs and just over a minute to go in the game.

You still think they kick the FG hoping to get the ball back and march down the field to get another FG rather than going for it on 4th and 2?

My money is on them going for it on fourth down, probably getting it and sadly scoring a TD with the end of the game being 16 - 17.

This is the aggressiveness that everyone has been saying that McCarthy lacked. If they had got the TD, everyone would be saying "GREAT CALL, MIKE!!"

But no, people can't decide on what they want, apparently.

I have to say that I agreed with the decision to go for it, but I would have given it to Kuhn up the middle. Had we converted, we would have had complete momentum and taken the crowd out of the game (and believe me, the crowd was a HUGE factor, I was there).

Also, on 3rd down, I didn't like how we went for a QB sneak. It's too risky. What if Rodgers had gotten rolled up on and hurt his knee or something?

And about criticizing McCarthy for going for it: it's easy to do that now, after the game...but I think it was the correct decision.

I hate how people do shit like this.

You always take the 3. I was not happy with this decision and knew it was going to cost us. I don't care how crappy a team is, it's one play and anything can happen. Take your three points and keep sticking it to them. If they suck that much, you'll be back.

Since the Pack can't dominate any teams, we need all the points we can get in every game.
