I thought we were cursed and it just wasn't going to happen for us.

That was the very reason I started the thread.. 96 didn't feel dominating at the time.. 97.. that did.. not 96. Glad more older goats felt the same way.

I can't believe I can't find a link detailing the injuries and roster moves, transaction by transaction for that season.

I thought Ron Cox played in every game that season?

I also thought Koonce was out earlier than the post season so, so much for my thinking.

Edit, either way, I was wrong. I had thought we lost a LB for a large portion of the season. I must have thought Koonce was out longer than the post season. I just remember thinking 'oh damn'.

I honestly don't think the Packers will be playing for the wildcard. I still think they're likely to win the division. The only way I can see this changing is if Ted Thompson steadfastly refuses to bring anyone to shore up the depleted talent on this team. I don't believe even he is that hardheaded and stubborn.

Greg C - it's tough to retroactively recall our emotions, but I don't remember there being much panic or doubt in the season outside of the Chief/Cowboy stretch. I think Chewy was hurt during the chief game (?!?) and it appeared to be season-ending at the time...other than that I don't think there was as much adversity as we've seen this year, esp. considering it's only 4 games in!

Pack93 - you mentioned no Wayne Simmons-esque intimidator, and I disagree. Although CM3 doesn't bring the same style of intimidation, his intensity brings a presense and identity to the defense that I feel has a comparable effect.

I think Bishop has that kind of meanness as well. Our problem is that we don't have Leroy Butler, one of the most underated players ever. Then when they matched his intellect with Eugene Robinson, what a duo. Collins and Burnett are special athletes, but they aren't exactly cerebral assassins.

agreed on Butler...he is easily in my top 5 list of fav. packers of all time. Very saavy, hell of a player, a 'field general,' top-notch all around.

The other thing to remember is the lore of players certainly grows with time and championships. Woody, Clay, Jenkins, Raji...these are all players that I think can evoke similar sentiments as LeRoy, Simmons, Sean Jones, and Gilbert if they have a ring on their fingers.

I agree. Going into that season, the Packers were clear Super Bowl favorites, and they got off to a dominating start. The Brooks injury in week 7 was the first major bump in the road. There was not as much adversity as there has been this year. But there was some, especially late in the season, and a lot of people have forgotten about it. Adding to the worry was the fact that some key players were nearing the end of their careers--particularly Reggie White, but also Sean Jones and Keith Jackson. The window did in fact close after the '97 season.

Boy do I remember a different story in regards to the turnstile of a rookie left tackle that we trotted out there in Kenny place.. maybe I am in error.. need to break out those 96 tapes and rewatch.. VHS? Where to find one.. lol.

We were favorite that season... we were hyped this season by many.. possibly the majority.. we had trials then.. we have trials now..

As you said, the team was certainly a favorite going into the season!

I don't recall if it was '96, '97, or '98 but I remember Reggie tearing his bicep down in a late season game in Tampa. It was assumed that he would be done for the season, but somehow miraculously returned. Other than Brooks, Chewy (and a few other small scares) and father time creeping up the team didn't seem to face the same issues that '10 is now cursed with.

With that said, if we've exhausted our bad injury karma for the season, then I think the team can still weather this storm...but cripes, please no more injuries, and PLEASE NO 18 GAME SEASON!!!

Wasn't it Reggie's hamstring? I can see him falling to the ground and grabbing the back of his leg in my mind.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'

Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
